SOURCE: timing isuzu trooper
I just changed the belt in my 2002 Trooper. The new timing belt will have marks on it probably thin white lines. these line will match up with the two cam gears (top right and left) and the crank pulley. The three white lines are spaced differently and the belt will only match up one way. Put the belt next to the existing belt if you can before you start to get an idea how it all lines up. The cam gears and crank all have either a raised line on the metal or a paint mark. By the way, this is a non-interference motor so you won't have to worry about punching a hole in your pistons if you get it wrong. The good thing is as long as you get all three lines lined up, it doesn't matter if the pulleys move (and they will) This job is a two person job and the hardest part is getting the belt tensioner nested and a pin inserted as a keeper. Use a knife and cut the old belt off then unbolt the belt tensioner. Use a vice to slowly compress the tensioner and then insert an allen wrench in the keeper hole. It will be easier if you use small needle nose vice grips to hold the belt in place on each cam pulley. you should be able to finish this job in 3 - 4 hours as long as you know what you are doing and own some metric tools. Good luck.

need a injector pump dial indicator to set up lift in pump (movement on dial indicator)0.05mm at correct timing mark on crank pulley 12 deg.
the above is an example for 4JB1 & 4JB1-TC
which are isuzu diesel engines

Replace the speed sensor located on the transmission this sends the signal to the speedometer, you may want to check the plug and its terminals to be sure the terminals in the plug are not corroded if they are clean the terminals with electrical contact cleaner then drive the care see if cleaning the plug fixed it if not replace the speed sensor.
