SOURCE: tailgate on chevy equinox (2006) will not open,

Most likely the linkage to the latch itself has come off or is damaged. You would have to remove the cover to the latch and operate it directly ( not easy to do with door closed)

SOURCE: my chevy equinox 2005 hatchback won,t open

i have the same problem. I just got it looked at this morning at the dealer and they said the hatchback latch is binded. they would have to order a new part. total cost was close to $400. I passed on that, and am going to get it looked at by a shop for a better price.

SOURCE: 1987 Volvo 245 wagon -

Systematically cut it out with a sawzall reciprocating saw.

Cut the post that the latch attaches to when closed, if you can get at it with the blade.

Then, replace the post.

May need a long prybar to open if, simply stuck, while operating the opening button or lever.

Good luck with this replacement of the tail gate.

My Equinox tailgate seems to be locked and will not open

May have been packed too tight, or something shifted as door was closing and became lodged in either the locking mechanism or the side supporting latched to the left and right lower edges of the door. Try applying some pressure to the outside of the door while turning the key. If you are trying to use the Key fob to open, the stuck position will not allow lock to disengage at all. If that does not work, have someone crawl inside and push while someone outside turns the key.
Silly question but, I need to ask, what is the temp. outside? There is also the very real possibility that, the door seal itself has been frozen to the painted mating surface along the jamb of the door. You would need to park in above freezing temp (full sun will work sometimes) if this does work, get some silicone sprayed on a rag (fairly wet) and wipe down the painted mating surface where the seal meets the jamb. Good luck

I cannot seem to open the tailgate door to my new 2011 Chevrolet Equinox. Can you advise what I may be doing wrong. I am pressing the back button just above the license plate but it is flat and not...

check and make sure it is not locked, there should be a trunk switch on the key-less remote, if it is not working then the fuse is blown, should be located on the driver-side under/by the steering column. Hope this helped Tim

2005 Honda Odyssey Tailgate Problem

Try to reset the tailgate by removing the no.7 (7.5 amp) fuse in the underdash fuse box. Open and close the tailgate manually, reinstall the fuse, and try the open tailgate button. If that doesn't work you would have take it to the dealer, where they can check for DTC's (diagnostic trouble codes). Honda Al
