Question about 1998 Ford Explorer

1 Answer

Poor Output from my AC

I have a 1998 Ford Explorer (4 door, V-6). My AC feels cold but not much is coming out. Do I need to clean a filter? I sprayed the front of my grill with a hose, as instructed by a mechanic, and it didn't help. I took my truck in, and was told that there is enough free-on.

What should I do?

Hot to cold door wont move for ac

In most case this is caused by a defective air temperature control blend door actuator motor and blend door being stuck due to heat warping from the heater core. The parts are located inside the dash and the dash must be removed to service them. My suggestion is have a well trusted shop that knows AC systems problems on Ford check it first before you pay the $1000.00 for the repair of the above parts.

Ac is blowing out of defrosterandnot panels in the dash. Air is cool cold air will blow out of rear seat panel/vent 1998 ford explored

The most common cause is a bad blend door actuator which controls air flow throughout the cabin. When air flow only flows from 1 section (either floor, vent, or defrost) it's an indication that the blend door actuator is either stuck or broken.

Heater hot/cold control knob doesn't work need to have the hot air.

Check the motor on the top of the heater plenum. It turns a shaft to shift the blender door which controls the input to this plenum either the heater core or the evaporator core (ac). You may find the motor is OK but the shaft (plastic) has broken and the blender door has to be replaced. This is a costly job that involves removing this plenum after removing the dash. A shortcut I found online was to cut a hole under the blender door and replace it through this opening. After replacing you can seal up the hole with epoxy. I cut three sides of a square hole leaving the back uncut. Pull down and the blender door can be removed. My problem was on a 1997 Explorer. _6.gif

Heater /ac

i had this exact same problem with my 98 explorer. your blend actuator (blend doors) are not morking. these are on the passenger side under the dash. getting to them will be dificult, but it can be done. you will need to take apart the heater box, to fix them. (the big black box under the dash).
