Engine is dying on idle

Isuzu Trooper, 1990, 2.8L - 6V, Manual Tranny. Milage 200.000 miles. I have replaced head gaskets, inlet manifold gaskets and all exhaust gaskets. Also new thermostat. New spark plugs. New parts in ignition distributor. (3000 miles ago). Fuel pump gives proper pressure. Engine works fine on high rpm when cold and stops on idle when is hot. After that it's hard to start.

Check engine light goes on and off

I would have your intake manifold gasket replaced. Most likely it has been cracked. Eventually if you keep driving it, the light will stay on, you will get rough idle and then stall out.

2000 trooper starts and idles fine, but when i put it in gear and give it gas it barely moves and the rpms drop. Also, when i disconnect the spark plugs on the right side the engines continues running the...

WELL WHAT ENGINE HAVE YOU GOT I know it must be either a V6 OR V8 and if the right hand bank of either 3 or 4 plugs leads are taken off and it still keeps the same and it dosent make any differance to the revs etc then it got to be a gasket on the inlet manifold on that head so that no petrol vapor is getting as it is sucking air only..
But what i carnt work out is how it run correctly on the Left hand bank only (IT CARNT)
There was a Army truck 1 tonner years ago that was a v8 and they had it to run on 1 bank of 4pistons {as a 4 cylinder engine} and after 150.000 miles they would take the old pistons out and fitted 4 more to the other bank and they kept running 100%.. but you havent got one of them sorry to tell you.. So let me know the answer to all above Ron

Trooper 2002 rough idle

Check all your vacuum lines by wiggling them around when it's running, and see if the "hiss" changes at all. Instead of the smoke wand, use soapy water. Just dump it on your intake, and if it's leaking it will bubble like crazy. Smoke wands are for locating leaks in houses, not engines.

02 Trooper intermittenly dies on idle.

This maybe due to an intake gasket leaking vacuum and causing a lean air-fuel mixture. Check for a vacuum leak where the lower intake plenum meets the cylinder heads. Separating the upper and lower intake manifold is not necessary. These gaskets are plastic and metal. The plastic gasket cracks causing a vacuum leak. This is an unmetered air leak and may cause fuel trim codes like PO171 and Po174 to set. There is an updated gaskets to repair the problem from Isuzu. These codes are for a lean fuel condition, not bad O2 sensors. Do you also have a rough idle?

98 Isuzu Trooper stalls on cold start, idle issues..

I had the same issue on my 99 Trooper.

It would usually start when completely cold, but idle around 2k RPM.
It would drive fine. But if I shut it down, ran into a store, and came back out, it would start but immediately idle.
Had to ride the gas a little to get it into gear.
The Check Engine light has been going on and off for 6 months or so.

I took this to my local trusted repair shop (no Isuzu dealers within 200 miles).
The diagnosed the light, and found that the Intake Gaskets were bad or leaking.
The idling problem was related to the car not being able to control the amount of air coming in.

They replaced the Intake gaskets by the next day, and I haven't had a problem since. And no more check engine light, which has been on half a year.

Here's some details from my bill:
(1) Intake Gasket set $107.95
Misc materials $21.00
2.1 hours of Labor

The total cost to me was $345.00, and I definately don't feel gipped.
