Changing inside pully belt

if you have two belts on your vehicle and need to change the inside one , put the edge of belt one pully that has outside belt and hit key couple times (do not start) the pulley and belt on the outside will turn putting the inside belt on inside without removing outside belt , Will leave small mark on belt that you put on But will not hurt it

Could it be the water pump or timing chain that whines on the right side of engime

It could be any of the beraings on one of your pulleys. The altenator, water pump, tensioner pully, power steering, any of thse can cause a squeel when the bearings go bad. timinag chains usuaaly won;t squeel, they just break.

Where are the timing marks on a 3.1 td bighorn

Only one timing mark which is on the main shaft. The injector pump and camshaft are timed with a bolt.. their is a small hole in the camshaft and injector pullys and a treaded hole in the engine behind them. Keep turning the engine until the mark on the bottom shaft is looking up and the holes in the pullys are lined with the holes in the engine if you are changing the belt or chain(***.Import) then put in two screw's if you are just checking the timing then a screwdriver will do. Cheers

My 1991 corsica will not start we have checked the battery changed the plugs put a new timing chain and a new in line filter what else can it be

Check the crank sesor located on the back of the engine between the transmission tail and engine you may have to remove the thrans/motor supprot plate to see. that is the most common no start ploblem. If I may ask why did you change the timing chain?

Need to ajust timing belt .we changed water pump and my son took belt and pully off

Take out #1 cylinder spark plug. make sure the piston head is at the very top of cylinder by moving the crank pulley by hand. When the piston is at the top check the crank, cam and any other pulley for little notches, these are your timing marks. Now position all the marks the same way as the crank, make sure they don't move. put the belt on and there you go.

Actually the car was running fine before I change tensioner. I change the tensioner and guide because the tensioner and timing guild make niose when first 10 minute started. But after change tensioner...

Ohhhhhh, sometimes folks get in a hurry changing belts and disconnect the crank sensor. Its sow by the crankshaft pully. It's a plug that came apart.

On-line step by step guide to change timing belt.

this is the best guide/instructions I could find on the net and I do allot of this.
take the timing cover off the belt there should be a gear below the camshaft pully its a tensioner use a peice of chalk and mark the very top of the cam pully and the very bottom of the crank pully do your best not to turn them loosen the tensioner pully the belt will loosen up take it off put the new one on if you turned the pully put it back slowly tighten the belt when its tight if the pully turned when tightening pull the slack out by hand then tighten it both chalk marks should be lined up if they are start the car always unplug the battery first and dont rotate the pullys more than a few inches if nessacery when the belt is off you could cause damage to the valves
