Your car is 13 years old. The lens on your disc reader is also 13 years old . They get extremely dirty. Especially if the changer is in the trunk. I'd try using a disc lens cleaner to see if that fixes the issue. Could be that its just worn out. Hard to say . Have you taken it to a stereo shop ? I'd take it to one of those before you take it to the dealer. The dealer will waaaaaaay over charge you for diagnostics on a cd changer where as a local stereo shop would Probly fix it for ya for next to nothing.
Unfortunately, my experience with the factory multi disk changer is no. Sometimes it is a matter of disconnecting and reconnecting to get it to a point where the system will eject the CD's. The problem actually appears to be a dust build up in the changer itself over time. It was only designed to work for about 5 years so you are well beyond that. My son was able to remove it and open it up and clean it out and got one to work for about 2 more years but in the end he ended up replacing it. Typically the gears that work the disk ladder inside jam up and cause it to fault out as the drive motor gets weak over time. In most cases to get your disk back you are going to have to open it up and manually cycle to each disk and remove it. Sorry, no really good news.
There may, or, may not be a small pinhole in the front panel of the changer. If it does have this hole, take a paper clip and insert it straight into the hole and this will enable manual ejection of the disk tray. If the hole is not there than the housing has to be removed to gain acess to the disks. Thank you, Dana
Well if you didn't already know all jeep chrysler dodge factory cd players don't work very well. I have sprayed high pressure air into mine and it has help but may not solve the problem permanently. I would suggest buying a new cd player. sorry
Try pulling the cover off, usually they will just pop off,use a small flat blade screw driver and gently pop out ,pull any knobs that are holding it on.Get to the back of the player and unplug the deck then plug in back in,this should reset it ,turn it on.
