Question about 1998 Ford Explorer
1998 Ford Explorer 2 door 4-wheel drive. My transmission shifter mechanism is now having trouble going into park. The column shifter, cable and lever are good. The damage is a result of shifting out of park to drive on an incline with parking brake pads that do not hold (need to replace). What am I getting into with the shifter mechanism in my transmission?
You need to remove the trans pan to inspect the parking pawl and rod. Hopefully you can adjust or repair with trans in your vehicle.
Also don't assume your cable etc is okey. You don't know that. You may be able to adjust it and be okey.
