Question about Cars & Trucks

1 Answer

My 2006 Chevy Equinox runs very hot when I have to idle. The temperature reading goes all the way to the red line and the thermostat button lights up red on the dash. I have taken it in to the chevy dealer and they can't find a problem. What could this be?

I assume they checked the cooling fans to make sure they were kicking on. I had a similar problem and the lower part of the radiator was clogged with dirt, bugs, etc. Had to remove the radiator and flush it out.
I also assume they checked the coolant level??
Did they use a remote thermometer to make sure the gauges weren't defective?
You might try a different shop. They should not have given up that easy...

Do the cooling fans come on ? Your vehicle should have two fans controlled by The PCM - engine computer energizing three different relay's for low and high speed .

Where is the temperature sensor located on a 2006 chevy equinox V6. The thermostat guage is not working. A new head gasket was recently done

hello
you will have to look on the drivers side of the engine and it will look like a small round button type thing sticking out of the engine with a wire going to it(outer area has a hex shape to it for a wrench to go onto) it my also have a cover on it so look closely until you find it.use a pan of some sort to catch the coolant when you remove it good luck

Overheating

Did you replace the thermostat as well? That could be your problem. Also make sure your radiator and reservoir are full.

Heater does not blow hot air do i need to change thermostat and how do i do that it is a 2006 equinox

Hello: Before you replace the thermostat, check the temperature door (air mix door) actuator. Make sure it is working. It should be on the passenger side of the heater case under the dash. Make sure the linkage moves when you move temperature selector on dash from hot to cold.

My heater stoped blowing hot air.antifreeze level

If the blower is blowing air just fine, but you cannot control the temperature, you need to listen to air coming from the vents while turning the temperature from hot to cold. If you do n ot hear any change in airflow, then you may a temperature door in the dash broken. this is becoming a common problem on the Equinox and Pontiac Torrent,
