How do you know when to flush your transmission

There are pro's and con's on that subject. Some want it changed every 3000 miles. Some say never as long as the fluid isn't brown and smells burnt. The reason is that additives in the fluid attack the glue that bonds the friction parts in the transmission causing early failure. Other opinions say it keeps the fluid free of small metal parts that wear, but that's what the filter does. I personally only add fluid when necessary and change the filter every 20 or so miles. I have a 92 Buick Riviera that has 96 thousand miles on it without ever having a transmission problem.

2.2 4cl what wt. oil----is there anything to quiet lifters---140,000 miles---my friend said 1/4 qt transmission fluid

Transmission fluid will clean out the engine but then I suggest using 3 quarts of 5w/30 and 1 quart of 20w/50 at your next oil change.

Want to know if you recommend a transmission flush for my car? It has over 140,000 miles. What sevices do you recommend?

Yes a tranny flush would be great. I would recommend Either Going out and purchasing a new tranny filter, gasket and Transmission fluid from your local Auto parts store and doing it yourself, CHEAPEST. Or going to your local Valvoline to have it flushed. Cost is around $100

1998 2D Coupe(Automatic) O/D blinks, catch when gears change

When was the last time the Transmission Fluid and Filter were changed? More than 35,000 miles = Fluid and Filter change.
Is there any leaks what so ever? This will affect shifting.
Have the Transmission Sensors been removed, cleaned/inspected and reinstalled? These Sensors are "magnets" and catch little metal particles that inhibit their functions, including shifting.
What is the condition and level of the Transmission Fluid. Make sure you smell the Fluid. If it smells burnt, then change it immediately. Make sure you check the level when the engine is at normal temperature and while the engine is running, with the gear in Park or Neutral (with the Parking Brake ON!).
Does this Transmission have a Solenoid (electronic shifting)? If so have you checked the electronic connections for corrosion or oxidation?
Don't spend $2,000 (or more) dollars when the rest of these combined cost less than $200 dollars!

When was the last transmission fluid ATF and transmission filter change?

The recommended interval is 2 years or 24,000 miles.

Is the ATF color a lite pink color or it's DARK RED?

Any burn smell?

Do the old fashion drop the trans pan and filter change.

DO NOT GO TO shop that use a machine to flush your automatic transmission.

====

Most Metro automatic can go up to 140,000 miles before needing a rebuilt.

If the ATF is in lite pink and it's not burn then the most likely cause are

1)lock up torque converter is not functioning

2)transmission filter is clogged

Please rate my answer if it's useful to you.

When should the transmission fluid bechanged

Don't know what manufacturer recommends but if you change fluid every 25k slightly shorter if used for towing or off-road it would not be too early or late. Most companies tend to run these numbers too high making their "stuff" appear to not need service as often as other manufacturers products. In reality, if you changed ALL fluids once a month, your vehicle would likely go 500K or better (but that's impractical and too costly)
