It souds like your system is overcharging..... check to make sure the charging system is charging between 13.5volts and 15.3volts at 3000rpms if more than that the voltage regulator is defective and needs replacement,if this situation occurred and the van was used for an extended period then you may have cooked the battery too... It will not be long that it may go bad.

84 toyota tercel .headlights burned out. bad voltage regulator?

first check for voltage with the car running..anything over 16 volts is too high..most run at 14.5 to 15..the regulator (if not in the alternator already ) is a small block usually on the firewall .. to find locate the wires on the back of the alternator.. if they go to a box on the firewall thats the regulator..if they go straight to the battery positive, then its a built in regulator,,auto parts will check for free..

Batterry light does not come on when key is turned to on pos. 2005 f350 super duty

Check to see if the battery is charging and as long as it is charging you may have a burned out lightbulb for the indicator light. You can get a free Diagram for your truck by signing up with Autozone.com and scroll through the menu until you find the Diagrams. There also can be a fuse for the indicator bulb which will show up on the Diagram.

They sometimes use 2 circuits with the interior indicator light being a fusible tap that only works the indicator light and the second circuit is under the hood and provides the charging voltage to the internal Regulator.

2003 FORD E150 NEW ALT AND NEW BATTERY STILL NOT CHARGING

Your wiring diagram shows a fusible link between the battery and alternator. Also shows an optional voltage regulator. Trace the wire from the alternator back to the battery. Look for that fuse and regulator. I will paste the diagram below.

84 toyota. altenator not charging

The diagram shows a capacitor between the regulator red wire and ground on some models. If your truck has that cap, you may want to check it or replace it. I don't see anything else on the diagram that could cause this behavior, unless there is a bad connection somewhere. If that red wire powers the field winding, a bad cap could be pulling down the voltage.
