Heater core replacement, 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo. Why do I have to evacuate the freon?

you need to evacuate the freon because in order to get the heater core out you also need to remove the evaporator for the AC. (great design huh?)

Have 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee, Laredo, 2WD, 4.0 engine. Freon leaking out, can't see visual oil leak, but evap condensate water feels oily. Leak must be evap. How/Where do I find a good step by step...

This job requries special training and tools, have a shop do it and avoid personal injury.

Odds of an evaporator are extremely slim. Get a shop to leak test, Usually seals, nor major components.

Cooling system

All the parts that you mentioned are the correct parts that you need to check if there's a problem with the cooling system in your jeep. It's just that you missed to check two (2) things:

1. Freon
2. Leak

If there's a leak in the copper tube, your car will run out of freon. If the freon is low, then the jeep will not get cool.

Contact an A/C tech to check if there's a leak, fix it and recharge your jeep with freon.

Have a great day!

Condensation water from ac on passenger side floor of 2000 jeep grand cherokee laredo

evaporator drain is plugged... Look at the bottom of the firewall on the passenger side... should see a rubber tube (Short, only an inch or so long) coming out... need to squeeze it and see if anything is plugging it.

If you are loosing the freon you do have a leak.Your system will have to have a special dye shot into the system and then you need special glasses to see the dye.Ask a AC repair shop what they charge.

How do replace a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee evaporator? Do I need to take the whole dash apart?

I have read it is quite a job. The heater core in my 97 Grand Cherokee (which is in the same location as the evaporator) is leaking. I think you have to remove the entire dash to get to it.
