Question about 2004 Mazda 6

1 Answer

Engine works, but my car won't move when I give it gas.

I have a manual '04 Mazda 6 with 54,500 miles on it. I went to turn right at a stoplight and I heard a "pop" sound and my car wouldn't move. It acts like its in neutral when its in gear... it just revs when I push on the gas. I was able to roll it into a parking lot. I tried turning it off and back on, it starts fine. I tried putting it in different gears and reverse but it just acted like it was in neutral.. any ideas?? :(

Could be your clutch or the cable from the shifter has a plastic piece that is easily broken that wont allow proper gear placement

I would not let them sell you an engine. The river design could just be traction control problems. Looks nice on photo. If money was not an issue, I would say load it onto a car carrier or wrecker and take it somewhere else.

You need a second opinion. Also, depending on State Law, some car lots must give a 3000 mile, 30 day warranty unless you bought it from a private owner. Check your laws.

Had a question bout my mazda rx8 I was driving it one night it was running fine the next day went out and it won't turn over it takes awhile bit it finally starts and idles real rough and you give it...

Too many possibilities

Won't turn over is one problem -battery,cables,grounds,
starter,solenoid,etc

Idles rough-- vacuum leaks, spark plugs never replaced,
egr valve etc

Worn O2 Sensors
Dirty MAF Sensor
Old Fuel Filter

You have to go into a lot of technical detail & history
on your vehicle, for us to even guess.

OK!.... it's got more than 185.xxx miles.. right? (out of warranty). FIRST place to check:
1. TPS - Throttle Position Sensor - it's a potentiometer (variable resistor) which sends voltage signals to the ECU (Engine Control Unit). If it is malfunctioning (defective), it can cause the drivability issue you describe. However, this is NOT ALWAYS the case since you mentioned the vehicle has more than 185,xxx miles.
2. ECU (Engine Control Unit)
3. Vacuum Leaks
4. Injectors (leaking/clogged)
5. Deffective MAF (Mass Air Flow Sensor)
6. ... want me to continue?... best advice, have it properly diagnosed at an authorized Hyundai Service Department --- this way you'll know EXACTLY what the CAUSE is, and the parts/labor required to fix it!

Take it to Auto-zone or something similar, they will bring out the diagnostic tool, connect and pull the codes for free. Could be as simple as you didn't tighten the gas cap tight enough..
