Question about 1998 Ford Explorer
The switch is located passenger side behind kick panel (in front of door on the floor) It is a electrical plug connector. You push in the tab and pull the connector out. basically exactly what luke already stated just adding a little more detail.

The reset switch is located at the front "a" pillar near where your foot would kick, sometimes called the kick panel for this reason.....the switch is called an inertia switch becuase it shuts off the fuel in the event of a collision, now im from australia, where the driver sits on the right and the inertia switch is on the left, it is behind the plastic panel, be careful not to break as you bend it back,,,,,,,good luck
