Question about 2003 Chevrolet Blazer

Sluggish acceleration. High RPM, High Oil Pressure

I am having an intermittent problem that just started occurring.
When i start my truck everything seems fine until I put it into drive and hit the gas. When im at a full stop and try to accelerate it feels like I am towing a boat. My oil pressure rises alot higher then normal operating conditions sometimes up to 60 psi (usually runs at 40 max). It takes about a few seconds but i slowly pickup speed until I hit about 10mph then accelerating is no longer the problem. At this time my RPM's are about 2500-3500 when i am barely on the accelerator pedal. RPMs hover around 3000; and when your not giving it any gas the RPMs stay very high and come down slowly if at all. I normally dont see 3k rpm unless im on the gas pretty hard.

I would consider changing the vehicle speed sensor. When they go bad, they can really throw out a lot of bad data to the computer, resulting in unexpected behavior like you're experiencing. They're only around $20-$25. I hope this helps! :)

I will replace everything including the engine and transmission until I have all of your money.
intermittent oil pressure can be from loose oil pick up tube for the pump or from a spinning main bearing shell
good pressure when the oil holes do not line up and poor pressure when they do or oil surge moving the end of the pick up tube around from by the action on the pick up tube filter screen

The oil pressure is supposed to increase when accelerating and come back down when idling. Try replacing the fuel filter and see what happens but the oil pressure has nothing to do with it.

I have an 02 wrangler and the oil preasure goes down when Idling is that an oil pump going bad?

First we would need to know when this occurs. Asuming the oil level is at the full mark!. If the pressure goes up during acceleration and down at idle when engine is fully warmed up, then this is normal. An engine requires 10 psi of oil pressure per 1,000 rpm ( ex. 20 psi at 2,000 rpm, 25 psi at 2,500 rpm, and so on ) . If the gauge is moving back and forth erratically at idle , i would say the gauge is bad. If it drops to 0 while accelerating I would say your oil pump is bad. If from time to time it seems to work and other times it seems not to work, I would say the oil pressure sending unit for the gauge is bad. If the pump failed you would start to here a Knocking noise from the engine in a short period of time. Use the above scenario's to narrow down what it may be.

The oil pressure gauge in my 2002 Duramax Diesel engine PU increases during acceleration and returns to normal following acceleration. Why would this happen?

That is normal. As you accelerate and rpm's increase the oil pump rpm increases. I think the oil pump runs 1 to 1 or 2 to 1 with the crankshaft rpm. Check the oil and inspect for any visual leaks if the gauge does not operate like that consistently. If it is intermittent or it just started acting that way, the sender my be bad. Other than that any Chevy Dealer will say that is normal.

Losing power 98 TJ wrangler

Sounds as if converter on exhaust is getting plugged up. have it checked and replaced. That will force exhaust out ahead of it where ordinarily it would flow with less pressure. Oil leak is a separate item.
