The most common problem with 4x4 Ford trucks is with electronic solenoid-controlled 4x4 shift systems.

If you have a manual lever, this doesn't apply to you.

Please comment this with your vehicle's year, make, and model, plus any specifics about your trim level, etc you can provide, so I can better assist you.

I have 2003 RA Holden Rodeo 3.0 ltr T/Diesel. The 2 front wheels don't seem to be engaging when i put it into 4wd (high or low range). I can hear the high and low range click in when i press the buttons...

Does yours have AUTO hubs, there are some luxory models have auto hubs, these rely on difference in drive on the axles,(wheel spin) others have manual locking hubs, these actually need to be engaged manually, these require you to twist the centre of the hub to engage and disengage the front hubs, these sometimes require you to reverse to disengage properly, Rodeo had both depending on model. 4 Wheel doesn't engage on 99 Ford Ranger

if you have locking hubs then yes. They could have been put together wrong. But if non locking then have it inspected to be sure nothing is off. It should be easy to find if something was left off.

Not sure if the hubs are engaging?

Well, the best way is to place the vehicle on a hoist and raise all 4 wheels off the ground and put it in 4WD and see if all the wheels start turning.

Another way is to make a really sharp (slow) turn while the unit is in 4 wheel high or 4 wheel low on dry pavement. You should be able to feel the driveline wrap-up caused by the front wheels trying to grab during the hard turn.

4 Low should be easily distinguishable from 4 High as well as 2 Whl when you accelerate and it feels like the transmision is stuck in low gear and the engine starts screaming for mercy at high RPM and you are only doing 30 MPH.

07 Ford Traction Control

2 wheel drive refers to the rear wheels.
The traction control feature applies the brakes to the wheels that are spinning due to lack of traction so that they can slow down and get a grip or traction, if its in 2 wheel drive the system will pulse the brakes and you will hear and feel the system engage usually a buzzing vibration and an indicator light will come on the dash to tell you its engaged
