Question about 1992 Geo Storm

1 Answer

Dead plug cylinders

I have a 92 Geo Storm. I did a complete tune-up on my car. When I started it it was idling rough. So I pulled each wire from plug having 2 that made no change. Could it possibly be my coil I need to replace???

check for bad ignition wires and plugs. a black line on the spark plug insulator will indicate leakage, plug and wire will need to be changed.
plugged catylitic converter can also cause lack of power, can be checked with a backpressure guage test.

This ECU reports no spark (41 or DTC 42) is it?
and no spark , you will never have fueling, (ECU rules)
you need to use a compression gauge.
#2 is dead, this is TBI car so there is no #2 injector.
so that leaves 2 things.
1 low or no compression
2: the spark plug, wire or cap are bad.
ever tune it up? cap/rotor/wire set , and plugs, at 60k miles?
my guess is you dont have that $20 tool.

it must be done WOT, or the readings are meaningless.

have the intake gasket checked. spray carb/choke cleaner around intake gasket and if rpms change then you have a bad gasket which causes rough idle bad fuel econ

Sounds like a timing problem....put a timing light on it to ensure the engine is in time. Otherwise, you may have a bad ignition control module (ICU/ECU) check the timing first...good luck

Rough idle and stalls

sounds like a bad idle air control valve, but if its misfiring thats another ball game, then you may have a bad spark plug or plug wire.when was the last time this car was tuned? if its been a while then you may what to start with a complete tune up, also have the fuel preasure check as this would also cause this problem but if it rides fine and only runs rough at idle then its not the we are back at a tune up.

1992 Geo Storm having problems.

you may have turned too many rmps and warped a piston which would cause the piston to actualy hit your valve, or while turning too many rpms you may have caused the valve to "float" which would mess it up
