I have just purchased a 1991 Privia van and the speedometer just quit working. Where is the hookup located so that I can check to see if it came loose?

The speedo in this van is electronic and unless the transmission doesn't go into overdrive or the OD light is flashing the speed sensor is ok and the speedometer has failed which is not uncomon in this van, u can remove the instrument cluster and have the speedo repaired or try to find a used one, u are looking at about $250 to repair the speedo, if u do have a transmission OD light flashing and no overdrive then the speed sensor has failed, it is on the output shaft of the auto transmission case, see picture, part number and price below.

My 1991 Honda accord speedometer just decided to quit. Twice it then started working and then just dropped to zero. Any ideas?

Speedometer cable needs replaced. It is very easy to do if you have a little common sense and a few common tools.
The cable runs from the speedometer to the transmission, Just purchase a new speedo cable and remove the instrument cluster, Look at the backside of the cluster to find the cable to the speedometer, Remove it as you follow the cable to trans replace the same way it was removed and reinstall cluster.

Check your cable it might be snapping then if thats not the case your gear might be bad that would be in your gear transmission goto http://www.buzzle.com/articles/speedometer-not-working-properly.html for more info

How do I find and replace the speedometer cable? It is intermitently working. The speedometer needle tends to "bounce" around a lot.

You may not have a cable on that van...it is most likely electronically controlled...have your vehicle speed sensor checked out,,,,if its good you may have a bad speedo

2002 Toyota Sienna speedometer quit

Yes it is all related. It sound's like your speed sensor (VVS) has gone bad. There are two of them, one is an in put Velocity sensor and the out is the out put Velocity sensor.
Your going to have to get the Van scanned to find out which on has gone bad. Most of the time it's going to be the out put sensor and it not that hard to replace.
You can do it your self or a transmission shop, as for getting your Van scanned for the codes to let you know which sensor when bad. Auto Zone or Parts source will scan for free and can give you instructions on how to locate and replace the sensor.
Good luck and hope this helps.

2000 dodge caravan. Speedometer and odometer quit working and transmission will only work in reverse and low

hi there try to get a price on the speed sensor located on the transmission this sensor tells the computer how fast the van is going in turn the transmission shifts gears and there will be information sent to the speedometer . the reason the van only goes in low gear is to protect the system because the sensor is damaged so replace the speed sensor and try again , let me know how its running after relpaceing the sensor good luck
