Change the fuel filter. It is usually located passenger side along the frame rail ahead of the rear tire. You're right, it's starving for gas & because of this your fuel line is heating up & causing vapor lock. This is why your car won't start when hot. Good luck!

Well, if it were a fuel pump in the tank, it is likely that it would not work at all engine cold or hot.

Although, I've seen intermittent fuel pump problems on cars, before.

I would put a gauge on the fuel rail to see what pressure it has when it has stalled out and won't start.

This will tell you if the Fuel Pump is not working right. Try that before changing an in tank fuel pump, which requires dropping the tank down.

Do you have any service engine soon light codes on this vehicle stored?
Have it scanned to find out.

Thanks for asking about this problem.

When it doesn't start, thats when you want to verify if you have spark. Also that's when you would check for fuel pressure. You are loosing one of the two.

Possibly an ignition module or crank sensor problem. These are the two most common stalling electronics that will cause a stall when they get warm/hot and will then continue to operate once cooled down

Engine stalls at 50mph or when low on fuel

when low on fuel and the you drive and you turn car , side gravity forces force the fuel from the pump sock pickup sock and the fuel pump stalls, read the op. guide it tells you not do that.
the pump is fuel cooled, an fuel lubricated and starving it is a bad ACT.
so say what is going on at 50mph, going up or down a hill with 1/8th tank of fuel?

my jeep stalls in fast turns at 1/4 full (1991) slosh effect.
i slow down and bingo, it runs. did so new, and so did others..

gravity (and inertia) are our friends, but not always.
see space movie called Gravity. friend and foe.

Car runs perfect then starts missing real bad then stalls

Not unusual for fuel pumps to begin to fail once they are heated up from running. First thing in the morning pump is cool, then as you drive, it heats up and begins to lose pressure. After sitting a 1/2hr-1hr, it may start again and run fine for a short time and start to act up again. Had similar problem and found good fuel pressure when tank and pump cool, but lost pressure once vehicle driven a distance and pump heated up. The hotter the weather, the shorter the distance I could drive. If you can somehow set it up to have fuel pressure checked when it starts to act up, that would certainly help confirm if fuel pressure is the culprit.

SOUND LIKE FUEL PUMP FAILING OR STOPPED UP FUEL FILTER, CHECK FOR FUEL PRESSURE SEE IF YOU HAVE FUEL PRESSURE, IF YES PROBLEM COULD BE EGR VALVE STUCK OPEN WHICH WILL CAUSE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TO FLASH.

did your mechaniic check the fuel injectors, it very possibly could be 1 of them acting up, also have your mechanic to give your vehicle a fuel pressure test, this will tell if the pressure is within the specs for the year and engine size that you have. also have him to check the coil, or coils, 1 of them could be heating up, and breaking down, and after cooled for a while, they have been known to work again, untill they heat up again. also have him to check the fuel pump relay to see if it is getting bad, he might have to tempoarily replace it with another one just to see if it is acting up.

Mustang stalls when trying to drive and will shut down

Measure fuel pressure on injector rail - should be 38 to 40 psi. If low or fluctuating, then replace regulator. Another possibility is the in-tank filter being clogged - rare I know, but trash in the gas tank and it's clogged.

Engine starves for fuel after running about 50 miles or so...

Has Neon do same, I ran fuel at low level, on hot day, ran engine until it started to act up & threw a fuel pressure gauge on it. Was at approx 5 psi. Cold next morning, 48-50 psi. Always hot day about 30-40 miles into work in morning, o.k. Sit in hot sun all day & would happen 3-4 times on way home. Sit and let cool, 20 minutes or so & go again for a while. Cool day, no problem. Change pump I would.
