No it doesn't cause any problem, it will still filter regular oil just fine.

I have a Pontiac Grand Am 2003 with 170 thousand miles what type of oil do I use

Most older cars use 10w-30. 5w-30 wouldn't hurt.
The most important thing is to change the oil and filter on a regular basis. 200-300k miles is not too much to expect with regular oil changes.
You could do synthetic and maybe see a small amount of mpg increase and a definite decrease in engine wear. Sometimes synthetic will leak more til it swells the seals.
With synthetic you can up the miles traveled between changes.
7500 is what I do.
There are also high-mileage oils out there.
The Fram XG series is a really good oil filter.

Is it safe to put Valvoline synthetic 5W 30 oil in a Pontiac Grand Am 4 Cyl 2003 car with other oil already in car?

It depends on if the oil already in the car is synthetic of conventional. If the oil in the car is synthetic already you will be fine adding that. If it is conventional you will want to do a complete oil change and change the filter.

Hope this helps.

What brand of oil is best and how much? do I use the 5w/30?

your Rav 4 uses 5W-30, and any premium full synthetic oil and a good filter is fine-Castrol, Moble One, Valvoline, Pennzoil, Quaker State, Royal Purple, Amsol...all are very good brands, some a little better than others but you can hardly go wrong with any of them-all are good for 5000 miles + before change is needed, just buy a decent filter like Purelator 'PureOne', Wix, Morotcraft, K+N or Bosch, look at the packages and read filtering capabilities, they are all good filters with anti-drainback valves which helps protect many engine components on startup.

The best recommended oil for lincoln 1997 4.6 L V8 with over 300,000 miles also what would be the most fuel efficent recommended brand spark plug

originally it calls for 5w-30, but you could probably go to 10-30 or even 10w-40 since at 300,000 miles it seems logical that clearances are not what they used to be-and congratulations, that is some achievement!

WHAT OIL FOR 2005 KIA SORRENTO..PLEASE!

In the Owners manual is stated:
For better fuel economy, it is recommended to use the engine oil of
a viscosity grade SAE 5W-20 (API SM / ILSAC GF-4). However, if the engine oil is not available in your country, select the the proper engine oil engine oil using the engine oil viscosity chart.
What brand of oil to use is up to you. Castrol 5W-20 GTX, Pennzoil, Valvoline, or you can go up to Mobile 1, which is more expensive. If you change oil every 3000miles or 3 months, then you may not use synthetic oil, but it is up to you. My personal opinion is:
It is better to change 5W-20 Castrol GTX every 3 months or 3000miles than fully synthetic Mobil1 5W-20 every 6months or 6000miles.

global1207_0.gif

You can use 5W-20 all year around, but when you Kia Sorento will accumulate miles, and engine start to wear up, thicker 10W-30 is a suitable substitute. If the temperature will be 20F and expected to fall you must not use 10W-30, and will have 5W-20 in your Kia Sorento Oil PAN. The reason is that, when you start the engine the oil is in the Oil Pan, and 10w-30 is very thick in low temperatures. Till the oil warms up the engine wears up extensively.

WELL NO OIL LEAKS.WARRANTY MIGHT COVER IT BUT YOU NEED TO SHOW ALL OIL CHANGE RECEIPTS.ALSO YOU HAVE TO USE GM MOTOR OIL LIKE 5W - 30 VALVOLINE USE GM OIL FILTERS.THEY WILL CHECK TO MAKE SURE YOU BEEN KEEPING UP WITH SERVICE MAINTENANCE AND SERVICE SCHEDULES.CHECK YOUR OIL LEVEL ON DIP STICK SHOULD BE AT FULL MARK LINE. You need 4,6 qts of 5W-20 motor oil. If I were you I'd start right now to use synthetic oil. If you decide to do it - go with "The First in Synthetics" and the best: Amsoil! 5W-20 XL motor oil gives you (guaranteed) protection for 7.500 miles. (Do not fall for warranty cancellations or similar dealership spam. Magnuson-Moss act prohibts cancellations based on brand). Read this: http://people.msoe.edu/~yoderw/oilfilterstudy/oilfilterstudy.html or this: http://www.lesabret.com/filters/filter.html and try to avoid Fram filters. It seems that any other filter is better than Fram. I'd recommend Amsoil, Wix, Carquest (made by Wix), Mobil...
