Question about Cars & Trucks

1 Answer

Got a 1999 gmc jimmy. Wether it is cold outside or warm my truck has difficulty starting when the truck is cold. Got new plugs wires and distributor. Fuel pump is working fine. Once it is running there is no problem. I have to remove the breather and give it a sip of gas on order for it to catch and start. Once I do this two or three times it runs no problem.

Common problem with these is a fuel drainback. Use a fuel pump pressure tester, start the engine, If it's multi-port fuel injection the psi should be 50psi+. If 50psi, turn off engine and notice psi drop. If fuel pressure drops off to 10 or 5 psi, try to start engine and watch for a jump in fuel pump pressure. If pressure jumps to 50psi and the engine won't start, then I would suspect a good working fuel pump, if not a jump to 50 psi, I would say bad fuel pump. Good luck, Gary

Cap plug and wires you need the distributor, the pick in the distributor is corroded they have a high failure rate that which you are describing, dont just get a pick up you need the whole unit and not a used one.

My jimmy seems to be missing, but only when it rains, I would like some help. Mary

depending on what motor is in your Jimmy and if it still has a distributor, that is where i would start. moisture will get in side the distributor and cause a miss fire. This is a common problem with GM trucks that still have distributors instead of coil packs. Try haveing some one replace the cap and rotor or silicone around the cap and see if it seals.

GMC JIMMY NO START BUT GOT SPARK AND FUEL

try the oil pressure switch, that was a common problem on Gm trucks when I used to work on them, the oils switch was bad and woulden't allow it to start and the ones I worked on were on the back of the distributor.
