Question about 2001 Audi A4

1 Answer

I recently bought a 2001 audi a4 quattro from a private owner. He told me only to put premium fuel in the car. He is an enthusiast and had done a lot of maintenance to the car. After letting the car get real low on fuel so I could determine what kind of gas mileage I was getting, I filled it up with premium 93 octane fuel. I immediately had puttering from the car when i took off. It never had done that before. I continued to drive it and eventually it seemed alright. That evening I noticed the check engine light come on, so the next morning I took it to autozone to get a diagnostic report on it. It showed several possibilities, the most probable was a flow sensor needing replaced. then was a vacuum leak, then spark plug misfire. Several of the sparkplugs showed misfire. What is probably wrong and is it safe to drive the car home from work?

Hello! There is contamination in the tank...It really does not have a whole lot to do with the octane of the gas...Performance drivers use 93 most all the time...Its the compression ratio of the engine that decides the octane...9.5-10/1 compression ratio requires it...There are two engines for the vehicle...1.8=9.5 to 1 ratio...2.8=10.3 to 1 ratio...This means you should be running 93 octane...Now about the contamination...Safe to drive home...Fuel filter needs to be changed...Running the tank to empty, then filling, probably knocked loose contaminants...Also stop by an Autozone, Napa, or Advanced auto store and pick up a fuel filter...Also buy a can of SEAFOAM...It's the best cleaner that I've ever used...Cost is $10 a can...Pour it in the gas tank...Changing the filter may not be enough...Worse case would be to have the gas tank removed and cleaned...However , the chances are good that it will clean up...Codes should clear once clean fuel reaches the combustion chamber...If not..........

To clear the codes...Disconnect the + terminal of the battery for 15 minutes...Then re-connect...BUT BEFORE YOU DO...Take a cigar lighter plug...Match polarity...Connect a new 9 volt battery to the proper terminals (outside spring is ground (- terminal))...Plug it into the cigar lighter plug...BEFORE you disconnect the battery...The 9 volts will keep your stereo powered up...So you don't have to worry about a radio code...

Send a comment......Guru..............Saailer

Towed 2001 audi a4 quatro with a dolley tow truck...the car will not go when put into any gear..the car is a 5 speed

If you only put two wheels on a dolly, even in neutral, you smoked the center diff. Quattro cars must be flatbedded. Gonna have to replace the center differential.

They didn't come with air ride but it sounds like your car had it installed. I'd figure the prior owner would've told you about it though.

I just bought a 2003 audi a4 quattro 3.0. The low fuel symbol flashes even after I filled up the tank. Also the outside door is not there a button to lock/unlock the fuel access door? Thx

I recently picked up an 2001 Audi and the dealer told me that this is one of the most common questions. You have to double press the unlock button of your keyless entry pad to unlock all doors including the fuel access door. Perhaps you are checking the fuel access door while all doors are unlocked?

Location of fuel filter on a 2001 audi tt quattro

On a 2001 Audi TT Quattro the fuel filter is located forward of the fuel tank, in the right rear wheel well area. The fuel line clamps are a bit tricky. The change will improve performance. The owners manual does not even list changing the filter. But do it! use a Fram, and it fit perfectly. Good luck.

Where is the fuel filter on a A4 2000-2001 1.8 non turbo

Fuel filter is not fun on this car. Located in the front top of the tank beneath the car. Tank must be lowered to gain access. Banjo nuts difficult to access. Fuel under pressure in line will squirt out... messy. Good job to be done on a lift.
