Hello skippy48067: My name is Roger and I will help you. You did not say if you have a automatic transmission of a standard so here are the specs on both. For the automatic the fluid type is (atf sp 111) and holds 6.2 qt. For the standard transmission the fluid type is (gl4 or gl5 80-90) and it holds 2.96 qt. If you have the standard transmission ? Be sure you use the correct fluid. If you do not use the correct type of 80-90 weight oil you will ruin the transmission. Should you need further help please just ask. Thank You for using Fix Ya. The problem here is did he put the right transmission fluid in when he changed it? Changing the trans oil is no problem but if he put the wrong oil in you are going to have major problems because you are damaging your transmission everytime you use it. You will need to check the operator handbook in your glove compartment for the correct type of oil or take the vehicle to a transmission shop where they can change the oil and filter.
The transmission fluid should be flushed out every 60,000miles. In your owners manual there will be a service interval section that will tell you how often the fluid should be changed.
It is a proprietary Hyundai transmission fluid. Don't use anything other than the Hyundai stuff. This fluid has superb lubrication properties, but it breaks down much quicker than the specified 30,000 mile fluid change intervals. I highly recommend having both the fluid and filter changed once a year or once every 15,000 to 20,000 miles.
you didn't make clear you have a automatic trasmission or manual?
if is a manual trasmission you have to look the clutch and to valves that is puting the trasmision oil pressure to move the clutch one at the end near the gear box and the second after the clutch pedal outside of the cabin imediatley after the pedal. you have to look to the oil level in the rezervoir, if you dont have the problem to bay some oil and to change completely the oil first maybe the right solution to begin with oil change first , may be is freeze from the dirties finded in the oil pipes and valves.
if you have the automatic trasmission sorry i dont know, because the problems there are more complex.
The ATF level is checked when your engine is at normal operating temperature, your car sitting on a flat surface with your transmission in P mode. Pull out the trasmission dipstick and check the level on it at hot.
Normally the colour of the oil should be quite clear or pink but if it smells burning or is too brownish in colour, your transmission will need a flush and the internal filter replaced as well.
