Question about 2004 Saturn VUE

1 Answer

I replaced starter todya, but the Vue won't start.....makes one click sound when I turn the key....I disconnected the battery when I took the old starter it possible that reconnecting the battery armed an anti-theft security system (or the alarm) so it won't start? Do you know what I should do?

thanks REMYMIX.......I am trying to re-learn the anti-theft right now , as you suggested. I called the parts store and told them that I may have a defective starter. They said that it wasn't defective!?! I will take the new starter off and return it if your suggestion doesn't pan out.

REMYMIX, the key on for 10 minutes, then shut off for 10 seconds, 3X didn't work......I'm taking the "new" re-built starter off and returning it. I will try to find and afford a brand new one. Thanks, still, for your advice. Jim

remymix, thank you. The second starter they gave me worked fine. The Vue starts great now, but now the rpm goes below the idle notch and it occasionally stalls when I slow down near to a halt. I think that when I hooked the battery back up, the fuel mix/electronics didn't reset back to normal. About two years this happened and the Saturn Dealer fixed it in a minute or two/no charge. Can you tell me how to fix this?

Try a re-learn for your anti theft...turn key on for 10 minutes, shut it off, for 10 seconds,3 times.........also, it may be a possible defective starter!

Testimonial: "remymix was right on, the first starter I bought was defective. I brought it back and they would only give me another one after their test failed."

best of luck, there are a lot of junk parts being sold (junk)....never ASSUME that the starter is not defetctive.. always keep the box it came in and the receipt...........return it and try again....keep me informed. the store can easily tell you it is not listen because many of these parts that i obtained were defective and i returned them, next thing you know, the next started worked!

ps many parts that i ordered that were definitely junk.! i returned many things and complained. it works. hope this helps.

alot of the parts are now made in china

It sounds like you have a bad actuator. This is attached to the starter and has a solonoid that pushes the starter motor gears into the engine gear. If the solonoid is faulty this may happen. Also check alignment of the same.

My lights, windows, and radio all work fine. But it won't start it makes a click noise but nothing. Then we thought it was the battery so we jumped it and now it won't even make no click noise at...

The "click" sound condition make us guess that could be a bad ignition switch or starter.

It turned out to be the starter. I first took the battery to have it tested and it was fine. Next, I took the starter apart and took it to Autozone to have it tested? and it was bad. It is not easy access to remove the starter. The intake manifold and exhaust system are in the way and need to be taken apart first. See instructions below:

- Take off Intake

- Take off Starter

Hope this helps (remember to rating this answer and leave some comment).

you may have a bad starter relay, or bad starter colenoid, best solution, have starter relay checked, if good, replace starter, does it click when you try to start?but won't? clicking indicates bad battery connections, bad starter colenoid, or simply bad starter. sometimes it's better to replace the whole starter, considering how much it costs to check all the above. suggest that you have battery checked for free at autozone or advance automotive for free. if battery checks good, replace starter. if you accept my solution and it works, let me know via and thank you for choosing

Try giving the starter a really strong whack with a heavy object like a hammer or a long breaker bar. If the solenoid is frozen this can dislodge it. If it doesn't, on to the next solution, i suppose.

95 F150 wont crank

the starter should be replaced. The solenoid is kikcing the pinion out but there is no contact being made to turn the starter motor. I have the exact same truck and before i changed the starter used the old starter tap trick. Tap the starter casing with a hammer and it should start turning again. hope this was helpful for you. Good luck.
