Question about 1988 Mitsubishi Pickup

Clutch has no pressure when you push it in to change gears sometime you can pump it hard it will go in good then iit goes to the floor again what could be wrong

Put morw brake fluid in clutch master cylinder, pump clutch paddle, look under car for leak, if no leak replace clutch master cylinder, not holding pressure.

Clutch not engaging


Well, it would shift easily with engine off, because the transmission input shaft is not turning. Engine running and clutch engaging good, the input shaft would again be stationary and allow smooth shifting.
What you have to determine is if the clutch disc or pressure plate is bad (a new clutch is needed), or if the pedal hydraulic system has a malfunction. When you push the pedal down, a rod from the top of pedal pushes into the clutch master cylinder bolted to the firewall under the hood. This cylinder has a reservoir filled with brake fluid. When the rod forces fluid from the clutch master down a steel line and into the clutch slave cylinder down on the transmission bell housing, the hydraulic pressure forces a plunger from the slave cylinder to extend and push the clutch fork lever a small amount, enough to force the clutch release bearing (aka throw-out bearing) against the pressure plate. This relieves pressure on the clutch disc and input shaft becomes stationary for easy shifting.

Hi Amiralred, I believe the problem is to be found with the clutch plate and most likely to do with a defective center boss. When it is removed I believe you will find that one or more of the torque absorption spring has broken and possibly the center boss. A good idea with clutch plates, is to use original replacement parts if possible. Regards John

93 toyota tercel clutch. pedal goes to floor very easy. have to pump to get it to engage. very hard shifting sometime cant. whats the problem


the clutch oil is low or empty fill it or there is bad clutch cylender either the one located in front of the steering inside the engine compartment change it or the other is near the gear box

My 87 sami has been parked in the barn for about 3 years without moving. i fired her up the other day, and noticed, that will idleing, i could not put the trans into any gears. when i turned the engine...


the slave cylinder for the clutch has lost pressure or has gone bad, don't panic!! not yet, pump the clutch about a hundred times, i'm not kiddin! sometimes it happens,you have a hydraulic slave cylinder clutch. they loose pressure if not used often, after you've pumped it 29times look under the driverside door towards motor to see if fluid is dripping down,, if not,, keep pumping until the clutch comes up;;;FEEL PRESSURE WHEN YOU'RE PUSHING CLUTCH IN hope this helps!!

Clutch petal goes to the floor with little resistance. can't get in gear.


fill the reservoir for the clutch slave cylinder. No with the engine OFF pump the clutch 25 times. Yes 25 times. Now start the engine and see if it shifts. If it does you need a new slave cylinder, clutch, pressure plate, & throwout bearing as well. Everything is replaced upon dismantling for you do now want to do it again within a few months later. Also have the flywheel machined smooth if its still any good

Hard to get in first gear makes noises going into


synconizers or shift fork bent, but most likely your throw out bearing is not dissengageing your pressure plate al the way. check your clutch linkage.

I just got a new used 1995 honda accord and already i'm really unhappy. The gears stick terribly and the breaks... you have to push down really hard and they don't break fast. What can i do about the gears...


the gears are sticking? is the shifter just really tight and hard to move from one gear to the next, or even just wiggle around in neutral? if so, you may need new bushings for it. which are not very expensive. IF the shifter wiggles around easily in neutral, but hangs in a gear when you press the clutch in all the way, you could need a clutch, OR hopefully you can just try bleeding the clutch line. at the master cylinder on the transmission. the breaks.... do you have to push the pedal down really hard, or really soft and far? if you're putting a lot of pressure on the pedal but you don't have to push the brake pedal all the way to the floor, that would indicate to me that your pads and rotors are glazed over. you should replace the rotors, pads and have the calipers checked, and have the brakes bled. if you've got to push the pedal all the way to the floor, there's a good chance all you'll need is to have the brakes bled.

My truck is a manual and it wont go into gear after cranking it up. The petal is soft and easy to push to the floor. We have put a clutch cylinder and a slave cylinder and have bleed them. and it still...


It could be a bad clutch cylinder or a bad slave cylinder. If it is either - the clutch would not fully disengage. This would make changing gears very difficult. If it is the slave cylinder the system should loose fluid and start to drip if you pump it repeatedly. If it is the clucth cylinder it should just seep past the plunger seals and the fluid may not lower. If you put the truck in gear without starting it and push the clutch in - can you push the vehicle? If the answer is no - the clutch is not fully disengaged.
