I'm not sure if the compressor is out totally, or if it just needs freon, but the a/c is blowing warm air and not cooling. The compressor was making noise, like it was working harder, but now, the...

Well, if shes out or low of freon, the compressor will not come on. Start buy adding a can to see how it works then, before you decide you need a new compressor. You can add a can your self it is easy. Buy you one with a reusable hose that will also come with a gage. The gage will give you a reference if you have enough freon in the system. Look under your hood for a sticker which will tell you how much freon it takes. Buy you a can with more Oz. than the system takes. So you will have some left over in case you need more later. Find your compressor and follow the lines out away from it. One line which is smaller goes out to the front of the car. The other bigger line should go over to the pass side and twist and turn into a cylinder at the wall. Look on this line for a port, will have a plastic cap which will screw off to access the fitting to add freon. The hose end will clip onto this fitting and you are all set. Hope this helps Fix Ya up.

How do you replace the compressor? Is there an online mannual? 2003

Physically changing the compressor is easy. Just two freon lines, a belt, one clutch wire, and a few bolts.
But first you need to capture the old freon, which needs a vacuum pump and tank.
It is technically illegal to just vent it, and it is dangerous because of the pressure and cold. (wear eye protection and gloves)
You also need to add the right amount of the right type of oil, depending on the type of freon (a 2003 should be R134a).
But instructions should come with the new compressor.
Then you need to add the correct amount of freon.
If you saved it, then you just put that back in.
Otherwise the instructions should tell you how much to add.

Tring to add freon where is low presure switch

Follow the large low pressure line coming from the firewall, going into the passengers compartment under the windshield ,it will have the low pressure service port on it,and it is the only service port the service hose you have will fit.

I have a 02 chev tahoe, with dual a/ cold air is blowing.compressor is cycling on/off at a fast pace.i see 2 ports on thin a/c line, but i think these are high pressure line ports?im tring to find low...

freon level is low . One of those 2 ports u see will be the one u want. It will be the smaller of the 2 as the refill hose will only lock onto the correct fitting.

Addding freon problem

Is the A/C compressor turning on? If not, that's one reason and a big one as to why it won't take the freon into the system. Have the compressor checked to make sure it is even coming on. You can hear a click when it is turned on/off. No click sound, no compressor working! and therefore-- NO A/C working

A/C went out on a 1999 Chevy Cavalier

What do you mean by went out,if it just one day stopped working,it could just be low on freon.does the a/c compressor come on? to find out....start engine..turn a/c completely off....turn on a/ soon as you turn on a/c you should hear a click sound under the hood,if you dont hear click, you may just be a little low on can add freon yourself instead of paying alot at a some r134 refrigerant, walmart sells several differnt brands just make sure it comes with a hose to add with.find your a/c low pressure line on car.....connect hose attached to refrigerant bottle...snap onto fitting on low pressure on a/c line.....start car with ac on add refrigerant......soon you should here a click....if so that was the compressor coming on,add freon until guage on bottle is in the safe zone. Ihopoe this helps you,if it doesnt you may need to take it to a shop.
