Question about 2002 Ford Expedition

My 2002 Ford Expedition shakes when put in drive. In park it does not shake. What would cause this, spark plug wires, plugs, fuel filter?

Spark plugs and wires,
Bad or leaky vacuum line
Bad 02 sensors, (check engine light would likely be on)

If it doesn't do it at idle, then motors mounts should be good and the problem is one of the listed above.

Your car is misfiring. You should not drive the vehicle while it is misfiring. If you want to DIY it you can start with you ignition system. Make sure all spark plugs, plug wires, and ignition coils are secure and in good condition.

My 95 Mitsubishi 3000gt started shaking and the engine light turned on ha the bk drive thru where u place ur order and up to the pick up window ... Put it back in drive and the shaking stopped and engine...


Some ideas I found:


What you have to wrap your head around is that putting the car in gear puts load on the drivetrain. It is that load that is leading to the shaking.This might happen because of a bad motor mount.

It will also happen for 100 other reasons that no one can guess about because you haven't said anything else about the car. Most of these reasons have to do with simple things like spark plugs - so now that you've gotten that far do the rest. New wires, new air and fuel filters. A check for vacuum leaks and a check of the fuel pressure would be in order.


Something wrong with the air/fuel mix (thus do air & fuel filters, check fuel pressure and for vacuum leaks) or something wrong with spark (thus have a look at the spark plug wires). But a look at the motor mounts is also in order. If nothing turns up there then you move on to other things (like distributor/coil, EGR system...)

98 expedition 5.4 4x4 with dual a/c..sputters and shakes while idle and driving...please help me ! i have replaced 5 of the 8 spark plugs till i can get to the back 3 (pain in the ****) no change not even...


When you know the symptom who needs codes?And if there was a code it probable say lean bank 02. why simple you have a misfire. the smell rich exhaust the shake and sputter in drive. 2 causes the Expedition suffer from ,An open EGR valve.If you can change a fuel filter and change a spark plug you can test this. when the engine is running and misfire at idle and the vehicle is warmed up and at operating temperature. Turn off engine. Go to the EGR is it hot to touch. because if it is it open and this the the culprit.Another misfrie is from COP (coil on plug.)When you change the spark plug where any of the spark boot torn or worn that spark can go through. Or even a faulty COP will do this .To find it you have the engine running and lift one COP out of the cylinder and listen for a engine drop if the engine RPM drop the COP is good if no change in engine the COP is bad. By the way 600rpm in drive is low

The fuel filter should be replaced every 2 years. It is easy to do since it is on the firewall. You don't even have to get under the car. Low fuel pressure can cause the issues you described. A dirty air filter can do this as well as bad spark plug wires. These cars are picky about the type of spark plugs you use as well. None of the gimming (+2, +4, splitfire) plugs should be used. I've had best luck with Motorcraft and Autolite plugs.

You probably have a dead cylinder. like if you have a six cylinder it might be running on only five. could be because of a bad spark plug, ignition coil, fuel injector, plug wire. you should get it checked out.

Hi, I have a 2006 Altima with 31,500 miles. Recently, the engine start shaking when car is Idle but I still feel the shake when driving or at red lights. My second problem is a weird loud (humming) noise...


You don't need to change the spark plugs since it has only 31.5 K. The plugs should last 60K. There is a an adjustment at the gas cable end at engine to increase the idle a little bit. You can increase rpm at idle to 600 RPM. Since your RPM at idle is low that why it is shaking at idle, red lights. Let me know it it is shaking at high speed ( 2500 RPM)

Vehicle shaking like it is missing real bad


when was the last tune up done and fuel filter was changed?
there is no spark plug wires I had to replace the boot for the number one cylinder on a 2000 expedition that was also having the same problem if the check engine light is on take it to auto zone and they will put it on a tester free of charge and I hope and pray that it is not the problem like the one I am working on right now I am replacing the upper and lower intake gaskets
