I just had the water pump and timing belt done on my son's 1994 lexus 300es. The coolant level dropped since yesterday. What could be the problem

Always should replace thermostat at same time; if this was not done, do so. Rust and gunk in the cooling system from a corroded radiator will often jam and damage the thermostat. Conversely, sometimes a corroding thermostat sets of the entire process by both striking and by sending hicks of rust to the other cooling system components (radiator and water pump). After engine idles for a while (but prior to overheating) gently squeeze the large hose attached to the top of the radiator. Is it getting warm? If not, the thermostat is likely not working. The thermostat should click and open the route for the top radiator hose, when the temp gauge is no farther toward "H" than at or just below the halfway mark, or just above, on most vehicles. Once the thermostat opens up the route for the upper radiator hose, the temp gauge should fall quickly.
If the thermostat wasn't replaced, appears to not be functioning, and is easily accessible and visible, tap it with a hammer (not hard enough to damage it)and see if it becomes unstuck. If your vehicle has an electric fan, make sure it is coming on after a few moments. If it isn't, check that its fuse is OK, that the wire connections are solid, then check that the fan relay is not burned out. A heat sensor sending unit which controls activation of the electric fan could also have failed.

COULD BE A BAD BEARING IN THE IDLER PULLY OR THE TENSIONER ON THE TIMING BELT OR THE SERPENTINE BELT. IF ITS A SQUEEL IT MAY BE SOME COOLANT GOT ON THE SERPENTINE BELT. TRY TO WASH THE BELT WITH WATER AND LET DRY COMPLETELY. IF NOISE REMAINS RETURN TO THE SHOP THAT DID THE WORK.

How do I check to see if the water pump is working on a 1991 Ford Bronco?


  1. Open the car hood and locate the thermostat on the top of the radiator lid. Pull the thermostat and start the car. Watch the temperature gauge carefully. If the water pump is working properly, the engine should take a long time to warm up (if it ever does). With the thermostat removed, the coolant should circulate continuously, making it harder for the engine to warm up. If you cannot tell if the car is heating up slow or not, move to Step 2.
  2. Turn the car off and locate the water pump and the water pump drive belt in the engine compartment. Use the wrench set to loosen the belt retaining bolt and pull the belt off of the pump. Spin the belt drive with your hands to see if it rolls smoothly and to determine if there is any movement or "play" in the driveshaft. If the pump seems in good working order, replace the belt, tighten the retaining screw back up, and move on to Step
  3. Locate the coolant drain plug on the bottom of the radiator and use the wrench set to remove it. Allow all of the coolant to drain out into a container and dispose of it. Replace the drain plug in the bottom of the radiator and then pour coolant into the radiator. Start the car up and watch the level of coolant carefully. If the water pump is working properly, the coolant level should drop quickly as the pump circulates coolant to other areas of the engine. Fill the radiator back up with coolant and watch it to drop again. If the coolant drops then your water pump is fine, however if the coolant drops very slowly or not at all it may be time for a new pump.

The fuel pump is inside gas tank behind the back seat unscrew the only top that's there and it is inside the gas tank. You will have to remove your back seat to gain access to fuel pump. Water Leaking from belt side of engine on a 1996 Camry.


hi, is it just water? or does it look more like coolant? if just water, and seems to only leak when a/c or defrost is used, this would likely be the evaperator drain tube letting moisture out. this is normal. but if looks like coolant(reddish pink, or possibly green) this likely means you have a leaking water pump. the water pump is driven by timing belt which is located behind the timing cover directly behind the drive belts. if/when you go to get it repaired, the timing belt should be replaced at the same time. also, you may want to have the timing belt tensioner, and timing belt pulleys relpaced at this time as well, it's good insurance for any repairs that may be needed later down the road after service. make sure to have the drive belts checked when repairing timing belt, they will be removed during repair, if they need to be replaced due to wear, re-install new ones at no extra labor charge.

Check belt tension, squeeling is most likely due to belt slippage. Have you noticed any fluid leaking from under your Jeep? Coolant level drop could be from bad water pump, when the pump needs replacing, water flows out of a "weep hole". It could be leaking onto your belt also, causing it to squeel

Lexus ES 330 2004 At what mileage does the radiator need to be serviced? Also, does it have an internal timing chain that needs to be serviced?


the coolant needs to be serviced @ 60k according to lexus reccomendation. theres a timing belt that needs to be changed @ 90k miles. I usually just change the coolant with the timing belt because you have to take the water pump off anyway and replace the engine coolant.

Truck over heats instantly


Chances are, and I know this sounds kind of stupid, that the thermostat was installed backwards. I had the same problem once, after replacing the entire cooling system it still overheated and that is what the issue was. I would definitely check that.
