The engine actually runs off the alternator not the battery i would check the alternator and it has a main fuse that handles everthing

I had the same problem, it would run, then suddenly no power like it was off, and the battery was dead. I asked my dad, him being a mechanic for 30 years, and he said to check the negative cable on the battery and where it connects to the engine. That was the problem. True the alternator runs the car once started, it will not run it if there is no ground. Try starting your vehicle and taking the negative side off the battery. it will shut off. anyway...check the negative cable. take it off, clean it up (any corrosion, dirt, or debree), put it all back together and that should solve your problem. if it doesnt, get your alternator checked

Have a 1995 GMC Sonoma and was driving one day and overheated the truck died and will not start now what could it be! It will start by pulling the truck and popping clutch

Why did it overheat, did you fix the overheating? Are you saying it cranks good but won't start? If it cranks good but won't start, check fuel--spark--compression. Make sure battery has a full charge and battery connections all good. If the battery is down, we can't do any testing. At the starter motor motor, two voltage circuits, one comes from the battery, hot all the time. The other voltage circuit goes hot with key in the crank position is wired through clutch switch. The starter motor grounds through engine block. Any testing at starter make sure tranny is in park or neutral and parking brake is set. You can have the starter motor tested.

2000 gmc sonoma wont start all the time has new starter and key switch

If the engine will not crank, you'll need to know if you have power at the starter posts. It could be the neutral switch or the starter relay.

1998 sonoma won't start

Your Battery is Corroded or Bad.... Pull your Battery, Clean the Terminals, Charge your Battery and have it tested and if it is bad, replace it. If it is Good, then Clean the Terminals and the Post REALLY GOOD and reinstall and your problem will go away. If your Battery is Good, test your Alternator. Your Battery should have 12.6-12.8 Volts. When it is Running, it should be 13.4-14.6 Volts Depending on your Alternator and Voltage Regulator

2001 GMC Sonoma. SLS 6 Cyl 4 WD 4.3 Vortec. I turn the key on and nothing happens. My dash lights up, all lights come on, fuel pump runs, starter relay clicks, Still nothing. I replaced the starter,...

Tilt the steering wheel down all the way and see if it starts, if it does then there is a main power wire loose in the steering columb. Thats all which comes to my mind at this time.

02 gmc sonoma want crank.has new battery,new fuel filter,and two new 02 sensors.any suggestions

k, not cranking, is the battery good, if yes you could try to jump the starter and see if it cranks, if not you could pull it and have it tested. If the starter is good, might be the ignition switch.

1999 GMC sonoma starte installation

2.2L Engine remove protective shields as needed then remove front exhaust pipe. Remove the brace from the engine to the clutch housing, then disconnect starter wiring. 4.3L Engine 2 wheel drive just remove the right front tire and you will have access to the wiring. 4.3L Engine 4 wheel drive you must remove the differential carrier shield if equipped then remove the starter bolts and rotate the starter to get access to the wiring. Good Luck.

near the battery you will find a box with fuse links in, one of them
