Check the relay for your thermo fan, should be in the main fuse box under the bonnet. Often when they heat up the fault presents itself. Other than that your thermo fan might be faulty.

Motor fans r not coming on when is in idle mode. if heater and airconditioner r running it will kick on, but not when car is setting still.

may have a bad fan relay, or check wiring to the fans. i believe there is a low and high fan on that, the low may be bad and thus a bad fan(s) . They only come on at a certain temp. Is the car overheating? there may be nothing wrong at all. Another thing to check, there may be a temperature sending unit that sends the temp. reading from the sensor to the PCM, then the PCM kicks the fans on at the factory programmed setting.

My 1999 Cavalier overheats when you turn the defroster off. Its like the cooling fan wont kick on, and the radiator has been replaced. Could it be the computer?

mist likely you had the oil changed recently and they knocked off the wire to the sending unit that tells the fan when to come on - the fan only comes on all the time - -when the AC is on or as you state the defrost is on . I hope you have a regular mechanic as he will be a hands on friend if you ask him.

Cooling fan wont work

The water temp sensor is located near the thermostat housing. This sensor is what tells the ECM to turn the fan on/off. The water temp sending unit is located near the same area. You know you have the correct sensor is because the water temp sensor has a 2 prong plug. The water temp sending unit only has 1 prong.
