Try putting gas directly down the throat of the carburetor the next time it stalls after running for a short time.

If it runs, then you have a carb blockage problem.

I assume your spark is strong across all cylinders.

Thanks for your reply, good spark on all 4 and have done the petrol down the throat trick, when it stalls the carby fuel level is good, in fact everything looks good?????????

    Is the spark timing alright?

  • Allan Atlee Jul 22, 2010

Duane, to be honest I assume it is because it runs perfectly for a while, no excessive smoke or anything. I drove it for approx 10km's before it died and would not restart a couple of days ago, after half an hour or so I can restart it again so I am thinking something is over heating and breaking down but I don't know what it could be, is there a relay or similar somewhere maybe?

do you have any engine codes stored in the system?

  • Allan Atlee Jul 22, 2010

It's actually my sisters car, so I doubt it. To be honest I didn't think this thing had a computer, does it?

I think that GM, anyway, started putting computers with Service Engine Soon or Check Engine lights in them in 1981 or so.

This is a 1992, Ford, vehicle.

In 1992 the Ford Escort had a computer in it.

And, this car has electronic engine controls, so it would have a computer, I believe.

Thanks, best I check it out and travel down that road because I am out of ideas. Thanks very much for your input. Very much appreciated.

Hi there
I have a 1991 Ford Laser 1.3 Litre - manual. It keeps stalling after a short time running. I have changed the fuel filter plugs and leads - it seems to be a fuel problem. What should I do next?

I have a 1977 ford ltd 351 M it SKIPS,stalls won't stay running exaust seams to get hot on right pipe replaced carb pickup coil fuel pump control box plugs cannot figure this out.

Ron, if equipped with EGR valve try cleaning/replacing, check timing, check compression, do a leak down test if compression not to specs.

Kf laser 5spd manual 1.6 carb

The idle circuit on the KE and KF Laser carby engines is controlled by the ignition module inside the distributor. The symptoms are intermittent stalling. There are also windings inside the distibutor that should be replaced at the same time as the module because these can short out the module.
