The radio & cigarette lighter usually run off the same fuse, check the fuse box under the hood for a blown fuse ,you may have another fuse box under the dash, check there also......hope this helps.........cheers

Fix car radio static

old post, and my first radio noise post.
im an old radio guy USN, and ex ham.
Q1: AM or FM? (even on cassette or CD?)
1: bad antenna, and for sure, there are upgrades !
2: too far from station, AM is worst for static, but FM has shorter distance for same station power. (I heard XERB in VietNam! AM)
3: bad radio. (rare for both am and fm bad)
4: bad alternator can sing, play with throttle and it sings higher for higher RPM bingo. stop engine, singing gone?, bingo. Alternator.
5: and last ignition noise, so stop engine still have ignition popping sounds. no more? , then Ignition noise, clicks or pops. (spark)
6: noise has 2 sources , radiated or conducted.
if conducted on power line, 12v to radio , we can buy a filter to stop that.
older cars do this. what year is yours. a honda what a 73 civic?

I blew the fuse for the auxillery power (looks like the "cigerette lighter" recepticle). I haven't been able to figure out what it is called on the fuse panel. Passenger side, side of dash board.

THE NAME MAY BE HARD TO RECOGNIZE. GET A GOOD FUSE TESTER, & TEST EVERY FUSE.THERE IS A FUSE PANEL INSIDE THE VEHICLE & ALSO UNDER THE HOOD. ALL OF THE FUSES CAN BE TESTED WITHOUT REMOVING THEM FROM THE FUSE BOX. LOOK CLOSELY & YOU CAN SEE TEST POINTS FACING OUT ON EACH FUSE. POWER ON ONE SIDE OF THE FUSE ONLY, MEANS THE FUSE IS BAD. POWER ON BOTH SIDES , THE FUSE IS O.K.
IGNITION SWITCH SHOULD BE ON DURING THE TESTING.

How can I open the hood of my 1998 mercury sable. It has an electric release and has a dead battery, I see no manual release.

If you can access the cabin plug a lead into the cigerette lighter socket and apply 12v, this will back feed the system enough the open the hood. you may need ignition on to do this.

1997 geo metro radio and cigerette lighter workin

The fuse in question is the "ACC" fuse and it is the 15A fuse that is third or fourth from the end of the fuse box that faces the side of the car (and it is under the dash behind the hood release). I've just had to replace mine several times in a row; you might want to check for a short.

Need radio wiring color info.

the best way to find out which wire is which is grab a test light now find the BATTERY WIRE and IGNITION WIRE the battery wire should constantly have power and the ignition wire should only power up when u turn the ignition on

the other wires are ur speaker wires what u would need to do is get a AA battery snip the wires that have the same colour but one should have a striped colour with it and make the wires touch both ends of the AA battery u will hear a speaker make static sound this will determine which speaker that wire goes to

Let me know how u go

BTW the earth wire just goes to the body and u will have a Interior light wire wire that to the cigerette lighter globe
