Its located on the left rear side of the engine block near the base of the oil dipstick tube and starter

its behind the starter. pull the starter, 3 bolts 10 mm 12 point wrench, and one bolt on crank sensor, you may have to move the dipstick, a little to pull it straight out,, Also disconnect the batteries, the RED wire on starter will arch, if you ground it!! jc

I'm not familiar with dodge but I know Ford's and GM's have ignition modules that go out and you lose spark.

TACHOMETER WORKS INTERMITTENT

Do you have engine code showing by chance? It's possible the crank sensor is bad or the connection to the ecm or pcm to the instrument cluster circuit board needs a look. If you need schematics check out www.promanuals.net they specialize in Dodge Ram service manuals.

99 ram diesel wont start

Did you check to see if there is power to the glow plugs if not then that may be the problem and if there is power when you cycle the key not to start but for the plugs to warm up you may have a bad glow plugs.

Charging problem on 1996 Dodge Ram 3500 Cummins Turbo Diesel

I had the same problem on a 94 dodge with the cummins. It seems the crank sensor that reads from a notch on the harmonic balancer was the problem Without this sensor reading that the engine is running the alternator wont charge. Possibly the same problem with yours
