Question about 1997 Ford Explorer AWD

That happen to my ranger and it was the transfer case shift motor. It is used when you select 4 low or 4 high. The motor is on the back of the transfer case about the size of a windshield wiper motor. pretty simple to put in. Thay cost about $80.00

Does your 4x4 work properly? if nothing is physically wrong with it try pulling the battery for bout 20 min and put it back in if not then
