Their is a reset button on Jags you can't jump them or recharge the battery if they sit long .A lot of people have them and don't drive them in the winter .
I'm no export on Jaguars but I know their is a reset .The cruise control issue is the same in most vehicles it works with the brake switch ABS transmission vehicle speed sensors and the transmitter for the key less entree system .
I would say a battery issue .

When the alarm sounds, turn the key to the RUN (NOT START) position, then OFF - do this 10 times rapidly.
Many alarms will turn off and allow the car to start with this method.

My car was functioning fine, until the batter went dead after inadvertently leaving the lights on. After recharging the battery, as well as performing a jump start, the car does not start, in fact not even...

You recharged the battery but did you have it tested? Sounds like your battery has a dead cell condition. This leaves you with a battery with all the volts in the world, radio and lights come on, but that will not crank the motor because it holds no amperage. This condition will often interfere with jump starting. Sometimes you can get around this by connecting the jumper to the positive terminal and then connecting the negative to the engine block instead of the battery but that does not consistently work.

1984 jaguar xj6 left lights on for a couple hours, car won't start but lights and radio come on

you need to make sure you have full battery voltage, turning the engine takes more power than a radio or lights, you can try having someone jump your battery to see if that helps,if it starts give it a good run without alot of lights and stuff on to recharge battery

1992 Camry v6 XLE: Started engine this morning,

Is it coming from the driver side, passenger side, front or rear of the engine? It could be a cam or crank seal if it is coming from the passenger side behind the plastic timing cover.

DISCHARGE WARNING LIGHT ON

It might leave you stranded. Because without the alternator. which I think is your problem your battery will run down in a very short time. Even if you had a new battery.Check the belt first as Toyota Ed suggested. If it's good, and not broken. Replace the alternator and if you have to, the battery also. One could affect the other.

Seems to be electrical problem

What initiated the need for jump starting? Is the alternator charging? Has the battery been checked?

To check the alternator, once the engine has been jumped and is running, remove one of the battery post connections. If the engine dies, the alternator is not charging the battery, and the symptoms you describe are the on-board computer going through low voltage spasms until sufficient electrical power to operate the engine / tranny is drained and the car dies.

If the car continues to run with no battery attached, the alternator is charging - - - and I would recommend removing the battery and having it checked and (if good) recharged to full capacity. I would also recommend having it charged even if the alternator is the problem just to delay the onset of the low voltage problems. The car should operate normally for a few miles before the battery drains too low after a full recharge, enabling you to get it to a shop for alternator service / replacement.

If you attempt replacing the alternator yourself, make sure the battery is disconnected prior to starting the job. Saves blowing up good stuff by accidental short.

Hope this helps and good luck!
