2002 jaguar x type cannot depress rear brake caliper to install pads

    2002 jaguar cant depress rear brake caliper dont know if you depress it by clamp tried didnt work or you screw it to depress????

I think they turn inward,one side turns left,as you push in just a little,the other side turns right.This should do the trick.

Is there a screw action to doing this? That's the way it is on GM cars that have rear disc brakes. A special tool required. You don't depress the caliper like the front.

    RE: Rear Brake Caliper Problem


    For the rear brakes you need a special tool and the piston is screwed back into the caliper. The left rear turns counterclock wise, and right rear turns clock wise. If you were able to Press is in like you do the front, than you have some problems.

    If you tried screwing them, and it would not move, than that means its toast. By the description you gave me with the one being all the way out, it must have froze in its bore. The "O" ring is fried. If you were able to screw that piston in, you would only be asking for problems. Also, according to the service manual, new caliper bolts are required....

    Best bet is to replace your rear caliper, rotors and pads. This is also a good time to replace your brake fluid. Since nobody ever replaces that. Brake fluid collects the moister from the brake lines....and if neglected, your nice brake lines rust from the inside out....

    I hope that when you did your front brakes, you opened the bleeder valve on the caliper and bleed the fluid out as you compressed the piston back into its bore? If you didn't open the bleeder and pushed the fluid back through the ABS module and into the reservoir.....your brake job just might get a bit more expensive.....never push your brake fluid back through the ABS module...

    Might be an expensive brake job, i think calipers are over 100+ each, rotors are about 100 for the pair and brake pads about 40+
    (just a rough guess)

2004 ele parking brake not pulling up to m.o.t s type jaguar


i presume you mean the electronic parking brake does not meet the minimum effort for mot test, first check the rear calipers and pads, the caliper sliders seize and/or the pads seize in the caliper frame, check the discs also for bad corrosion, is the park brake warning showing on the dash? if so check the wiring above the rear subframe its prone to chaffing and grounding out, the park brake motors are also troublesome, sounds like a pad/ caliper problem more than likely seized sliders easy job to free off, hope this is helpfull to you.

To Remove:


  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of
    this section.
  2. Remove or disconnect the following:

    • Front wheel
    • Clip, 2 caliper pins, the anti-rattle spring then remove the 2 brake pads
      and the 4 anti-squeal shims

To Install:

CAUTION
Only replace brake pads on 1 side of the
vehicle at a time. Failure to use this procedure could cause the caliper pistons
on the opposite side of the vehicle to pop out requiring the reconditioning or
replacement of the brake caliper.


  1. Remove a small amount of brake fluid from the master cylinder.
  2. Install a used brake pad into the caliper and compress the caliper pistons.
  3. Apply disc brake grease to both sides of the inner anti-squeal shims.
  4. Install or connect the following:

    • Anti-squeal shims to the new brake pads
      NOTE: When replacing worn pads, the anti-squeal shims must be replaced
      together with the pads.

    • 2 brake pads
    • Anti-rattle spring and the 2 caliper pins
    • Clip
    • Front wheel

  5. Depress the brake pedal several times to seat the brake pads.
  6. Check the brake fluid level and top off as needed.

Rear
To Remove:


  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of
    this section.
  2. Remove or disconnect the following:

    • Rear wheel

    • 2 cylinder slide pins from rear caliper assembly
    • Caliper assembly from rear caliper mounting
    • 2 brake pads with anti-squeal shims from rear caliper mounting
    • 2 anti-squeal shims from each disc brake pads
    • Pad wear indicator plate from the inner side disc brake pad
    • 4 pad support plates from the rear caliper mounting

To Install:


  1. Install or connect the following:

    • 4 pad support plates on the rear caliper mounting
    • Pad wear indicator plate on the inside brake pad
      Note: Install the pad wear indicator facing downward.

    • Anti-squeal shims on each brake pad
    • 2 disc brake pads with anti-squeal shims to the caliper assembly

  2. Apply lithium soap base glycol grease to the sliding part of 2 caliper slide
    pins.
  3. Install or connect the following:

    • Disc brake caliper assembly with 2 caliper slide pins
    • Torque to 65 ft-lbs (88 Nm)
    • Rear wheel

  4. Depress the brake pedal several times to seat the brake pads.
  5. Check the brake fluid level and top off as needed.

To Remove:


  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of
    this section.
  2. Remove or disconnect the following:

    • Front wheel
    • Front brake caliper assembly

  3. Make matchmarks on the disc and the axle hub.
  4. Remove the front disc.

To Install:


  1. Align matchmarks and disc onto axle hub.
  2. Install or connect the following:

    • Front brake caliper assembly with the 2 bolts

      1. Torque to 90 ft-lbs (123 Nm)

    • Front wheel

Need to replace rear brake discs and pads


YOU NEED TO REMOVE THE REAR WHEELS.REMOVE PARKING BRAKE CABLE CLIP FROM CALIPER DISCONNECT PARKING BRAKE CABLE.HOLD THE GUIDE PIN WITH A BACK UP WRENCH AND REMOVE UPPER MOUNTING BOLT FROM THE BRAKE CALIPER.SWING THE CALIPER DOWNWARD AND REMOVE THE BRAKE PADS.TO INSTALL NEW PADS.YOU HAVE TO RETRACT PISTON INTO THE HOUSING BY ROTATING THE PISTON CLOCKWISE.PUT EVERYTHING BACK VISA VERSA.

Wat tool do i need to remove front and back brake calipers so i can replace brake pads on a audi a4 2002 2.0 se


For front brake pads replacement you need only usually wrench set, inclusive 7 mm allen key also. But for rear brake pads replacement you need obligatory a special caliper piston pressing tool, in order to press back rear caliper piston with parking brake automatic adjustment!!! For front brake pads. First you must verify yours front brake disc diameter: 280 mm or 288 mm. (On my car y have 288 mm). After that you can buy the brake pads (with wear sensor). For change front brake pads you must raise vehicle, remove wheels, extract the retaining spring of the caliper, and remove the caliper as follow: 1. Do not disconnect the brake hose from the caliper, and do not allow the caliper to hang by the brake hose! 2. Remove top and bottom caps (on back side of the caliper) for access to guide pins, then unbolt and remove them from the brake carrier. Remove the caliper. 3. Now you must thoroughly clean the brake calipers (free of grease). 4. Remove outer brake pad from brake carrier. 5. Pull inner brake pad out of brake caliper piston. 6. Check up the brake fluid level on the reservor, and emptying if neccessary! 7. Push piston back into brake caliper housing. 8. Install inner brake pad (with expanding spring) in brake caliper piston. (Arrow marked on pad - if exist, must point in direction of brake disc rotation when vehicle is moving forward). 9. Install outer brake pad into brake carrier. 10. Bolt brake caliper housing to brake carrier using two guide pins. Tightening torque is 25 Nm. 11. Install both caps. 12. Insert retaining spring into brake caliper housing. Important: Depress the brake pedal firmly several times while the car is stationary so that the brake pads adjust to their normal operating positions!!! How to change rear brake pads


Raise the rear of the vehicle and make sure it is securely supported. Remove the rear wheel Remove the brake hose (A) from the suspension arm by removing the brake hose clip (B).Thoroughly clean the outside of the caliper to prevent dust and dirt from entering inside.Support the caliper with a piece of wire so that it does not hang from the brake se.f2d9a24.jpg
Remove the two guide rods (C) and caliper (D) from the bracket. Remove the pad shim (A) and brake pads (B).77fcb0a.jpg

Clean the caliper thoroughly; remove any rust, and check for grooves and cracks. Check the brake disc for damage and cracks. Install the pad retainers. Check the foreign material at the pad shim (A) and the back of the pads (B). Contaminated brake discs or pads reduce stopping ability. Keep grease off the discs and pads.3fdca95.jpg
Install the brake pads (B) and pad shim (A) on the caliper bracket. Install the inner pad with its wear indicator (C) facing down ward. If you are reusing the pads, always reinstall the brake pads in their original positions to prevent a momentary loss of braking efficiency. Rotate the caliper piston (A) clockwise into the cylinder, the align the cutout (B) in the piston with the tab (C) on the inner pad by turning the piston back. Lubricate the boot with rubber grease to avoid twisting the piston boot. If the piston boot is twisted, back it out so it is positioned properly.1d2811d.jpg
Install the brake caliper (D). Install and torque the guide rods (E) to proper specification. Install the brake hose (F) onto the suspension arm with the brake hose clip (G). After installation, check for leaks at hose and line joints and connections, and retighten if necessary. Depress the brake pedal several times to make sure the brakes work, then test-drive. Engagement of the brake may require a greater pedal stroke immediately after the brake pads have been replaced as a set. Several applications of the brake pedal will restore the normal pedal stroke.

Brakes to the floor(almost) 99 blazer


bleed the brake again. if the pedal goes to the floor with little resistance, then the master cylinder is your problem.
the shim is to depress the noise when you applied the brake. you can skip that, if the brake works without it.

I can't retract the rear calper on my 2002 Jaguar X-type. I am changing the pads & rotor. vem


What are you using? A c-clamp or you hands? A c-clamp ussually works but can sometimes cause the piston to become ****-eyed in the caliper. Best bet is to use the proper tool or a c clamp. Both work good. If it won't retract with those, the piston is siezed. Time for a new caliper.
