Timing marks on 5.0 motor i change the motor and put a carb motor in it instead of its factorey motor. and i need to know how to time it.

Are you saying you now have non fuel injected motor with a distributor. Whats going to matter here is the computer and whether or not you swapped it out also. To be able to give any advise one would need to know the year of the engine to know the specs.

Timing problem we think?

Mark the timing belt as well with the marks on the crank and cam.
to make sure it is not slipping and staying in place during the install.
I hope your valves are not bent. If they are not and you checked the above and still the same, then and only then I would put the belt back the way it was with that tooth off.

this is your engine
make sure you replace cam seal and timing cover seal

number one on TDC compression
after fitting new timing belt

turn motor by hand clockwise twice and mack sure the belt tension and timing marks are correct

#1 plug on the distributer

Put number one cylinder on compression top dead center, then look where the rotor on the distributor is put a chalk mark on the distributor housing, then install cap. Where mark and cap lign up to distributor cap terminal tower that is number one. Make sure you follow firing order and which direction distributor turns and put on the rest of wires. (example firing order 1-5-3-6-2-4 is on a six cyl.)

Have a 73-74 366 that has a aftermarket carter afb carb and it is popping through the carb while cranking and will not stay running. Have done a compression test-normal, changed cap and coil, checked...

Usually there are three reasons for backfiring thru the carb.
Not enough fuel, spark timing too early, or an open intake valve.
If the compression is good on all cylinders as you stated, my guess would be spark timing or mixture too lean. Could be a large vac leak somewhere too.
You say you checked the ignition, but do you know for a fact the plugs are all firing at the right time ? You could pull each plug wire and check each cylinder one at a time. Did you change the rotor when you changed the cap, and is there any chance the wires are cross-firing ?

custom carb .
who knows what you have, even diff, engine.
remove hose, measure it. if not up to measuring, take it to any shop
and they will tell you, what I.D it is. (most hoses are marked)
the jerking can be many things.
seems to me its the DASH pot effect.
on custom carbs there is no dash pot, so when you drop the hammer (throttle ) you get 100% closes throttle and next snapping
the orig, carb had a dash pot, now missing.
one trick is to run high idle speeds, or back off throttle slower driving.
or add a dashpot.
it simple delays throttle snap back.
sure the timing changes rpm that is why.
when tuning any carb, you set timing first , then tune carb to that.
stock timing and stock advance if motor is still stock,
you dizzy has stock advancing weights and springs, i test those first.

Timing marks on 3.5motor

if your asking because you changed the timing belt then, when you put the belt on you will see knoch on the pullys make sure they are all pointing up when you put the belt on, there are no other marks, your car does not have a distibutor to advance or ****** the timming, that is all done by the cam and the crack sensors on the car

How many quarts of oil does a Corolla Dx hold at oil change?

4 quarts, 5 with filter change according to the book. Rule of thumb, buy 5 and once you drain and replace the filter, start by putting 3 and a half quarts in and check the level. If it's between the marks start the motor and run for 5 minutes then let it sit for 5 minutes and recheck the level. Top off half a quart at a time till you get the oil level between the full and add marks.

Where are the timing marks on a 2000 gmc jimmy to put it at top dead center

Is this a 4.3 V6 or ? You will have to get some carb cleaner and a rag and wipe the grease off of the timing mark plate on the timing chain cover of the front of the engine next to your harmonic balance.

Setting timming changed headgaskets timing marks up top set but bottom timming mark keeps movihg 15 deg btdc even know start at 5 deg rottor button set on number one but does not start . sounds like it is...

Put the engine at TDC compression stroke , Thats when the valves are both closed on No 1 cyl and the piston is on its compression stroke .then align all cam and crank marks. set distributor/rotor button on No 1 cylinder (rotor pointing at #1 plug wire) . rotate engine 2 revolutions and recheck all marks. Fire away

Do not know if my crankshaft and camshaft are timed correctly.

on your distribuer find the number 1 wire then mark it on the dist. remove the cap then turn the crank intill you get to tdc(top dead center ),put the mark on the crank pully at 0 if you have it right the rotor button should be at the mark you put on the dist. , note: you might have to go around a few times
