Question about 2005 Ford Taurus

1 Answer

Okay this may be kinda long so bear with me: initially my check engine light came on and when I took my car in for inspection they discovered it was a faulty gas cap (it was cracked on the inside) and gave me a new one that fixed the problem immediately. Since I like having a locking gas cap I bought a new one and replaced the gas cap Goodyear gave me with that one. About a week later the check engine light came on again. I took the gas cap on and off several times and the light remained on. Then while I was driving to work the check fuel cap light came on in addition to the check engine light. Again I took the gas cap on and off several times and even tried the regular cap Goodyear gave me and the light is still on (although I may not have left it on long enough for the light to go off). any ideas? Thanks.

Sounds a lot like the locking cap isn't sealing right. It takes a complete drive cycle (about 25 miles) to get the light to go off. You may not be giving it enough time. Put the one they gave you on there and drive it for a few days...If it behaves then the locking cap is defective.

I have a tapping noise and pulled oil filter down to discover metal fragments in it

That's possibly a sign that one of your main or big end bearings is failing, especially if the tapping noise varies with engine revs. One way to make more certain is to pull off and replace the plug wires one by one while the engine runs. If the noise disappears with one certain plug wire disconnected, then that cylinder big end bearing is falling apart. The next step would be to remove the sump pan and inspect the bottom end bearings one by one.

I have a 2006 chevy uplander that had an abs light coming on so i took it to my local GM dealer to have it diagnosed and they had told me that the hub and bearing assembly needed to be changed, so i changed it and the light still came on. Upon further investigation i came to discover that the abs wires were frayed in two locations and that the connecters were loose i tightened the connecters and replaced the wires and now my abs light does not come on. I also discovered that i did not need a new hub and bearing assembly after all.

What type of Honda Civic do you have? There is a difference between the LX and EX civic exhaust systems. And your vehicle will not pass inspection with your check engine light on.

When pressing in on the clutch and sometimes when cornering I hear a scaching sound coming from Rt. front of car. Kinda like a loose cable rubbing against metal. Otherwise the car drives fine, any ideas?

Start with inspecting the brakes. Then the CV boots. After that it's a free for all. Inpect everything. Bearings, suspension parts, brake hoses, clutch cable. Better to remove wheel and turn wheels all the way left and right. If you can check with engine running and spinning hubs, even better.

Check engine light on in 2001 subaru outback - car running okay any ideas what it could be. the vehicle has passed state inspection

If the light was flashing when it came on, then it means your engine is misfiring.

A solid light can mean anything from a loose/faulty gas cap to a transmission issue.

This light comes on when the computer detects a fault of some sort in its diagnostic tests. If it keeps detecting this issue, the light will remain on. If the light turns off, then it has detected that the issue may no longer be present.

In order to find out what the exact reason was for your light, You need to have your car computer scanned to retrieve the code that the computer would have stored when the light triggered. Most garages will do this free of charge. The code will tell you what may have caused the light to initially turn on.

Cuts off, but will restart, then cuts off again

Likely, you have a damaged engine bearing. When there is a problem there it will turn oil pressure light on because bearings keep the pressure inside the crankshaft...It may stop as the bearing overheats and binds, then loosens up a bit allowing a re-start when it gets cooler. Battery sounding dead is likely because the engine is locking up and too difficult for starter to turn.
At this point, it is not a do-it -yourself project ...either you need a lower end rebuild or engine replacement.
