Question about 2001 Pontiac Grand Am SE

1 Answer

My 2001 Grand am Se keeps going dead on me while I stop. What is causing this? My husband has changed my fuel filter and also added some Seafoam to my gas tank and my car is still dying on me. It will crank right back up when it dies.

Try checking air filter and the box it's in and the hose leading to the engine.this i believe is vacuum problem.if there is a leak,it will stall at low speed.if not that,pcv valve or vacuum lines.if you need to figure out what's what,local libraries usually have haynes manuals with everything about the car.auto idles usually don't give problems,but if nothing else works it could be that.gas is made clean enough these days so that it should not be a gas related issue.

Have you tried different gas? That was a problem I had with a Grand Prix I once had. You can also try what i believe is called seafoam. You buy it at the auto parts store. My husband put some in the tank of the car I have now (was sitting a long while before we bought it), and it doesn't seem to hesitate any more.

2001 grand am 2.4 wont start and it is not the pass lock i changed the fuel filter and the pump comes on

did you install the fuel filter correctly for direction of flow.this can cause no fuel flow.there should be an arrow on the filter indicating the flow of fuel.also if this isn`t the problem then have the fuel pressure with a gauge and flow checked as if its not within specs the car won`t start.

My 2001 grand am se won't start just keeps turning

Several things here, without being there to properly diagnose this machine, I';d have to type from experiance this could be;
1 water in the tank
2 dirty throttle body
3 clogged air or fuel filter
4 corroded battery cables on both ends of the cables or loose.

Not getting fuel to engine. Changed filter. Fuel pump will pump for a few seconds with filter removed.

Sounds like the Fuel Pump is bad. Too much back pressure is causing them to cut out. Replace the Fuel Pump.

Multiple misfires, rough idle, cuts off at stop. replaces injectors cause dealership said was bad.. stopped for a few and then continued...smell gas and using alot of gas. Have replaced fuel filter,...

the fuel injectors are more than likley again your cause the are known for leaking and the smell of fuel usually means one or more was either improperly installed or defective
