Recently you has any repair or modification in youe engine? Change spark plug for any diferent aftermark? Keep in mind that you need use the right, just plain Bosch Copper's. You'll be much happier, Part Number RC12PYP and gap them at .030"

DTC P0234 - Engine Overboost Condition
The PCM disables (bypasses) the supercharger boost and sets a diagnostic trouble code (DTC) to keep from damaging the powertrain (engine or transmission) during potential harmful operating conditions.

Possible Causes:
- Brake torque (brake on and throttle at wide open).
- Transmission oil temperature (TOT) exceeds calibrated threshold.
- Engine over temperature.
- Ignition misfire exceeds the calibrated threshold.
- Knock sensor (KS) failure or knock detected.
- Low speed fuel pump relay not switching.

Possible Solutions:
Check for other diagnostic trouble codes accompanying P0234, or check appropriate and available PIDs related to the above possible causes.

Try is and tell us news.

I'm paste other comments as quote...

"Taz, Does it buck like a pissed horse? Do you mean a turbo control
valve? That code is for a an engine overboost condition. I just had a
similar thing on my 01 S60 T5 but I never got the P0234 code so, I
replaced the Turbo Boost Pressure Valve (located on the side of the air
cleaner housing)and the problem went away. The part is around $60.00 at
FCP and takes no more than 5 minutes to put in.

    Alas,
about 3 weeks later my problem returned, but not as frequent and not as
forceful of a bucking. I just got the car back from the dealer for the
second time and it was the ETM, which was replaced under Volvo Recall 155. Do you know if the ETM has been replaced? Now the car
runs like crazy I just got back from a 2 hour spin just to have some
    fun. Hope this helps."

Try to find this "recall" witrh your dealer or local library.

I was cheking the engine and I found a loose hose that connects to turbo ducts. I'll leave the car run and go for a spin.

Code p0234

P0234 Description
The boost pressure sensor responds to pressure changes in the intake manifold. This pressure is created by the turbocharger and changes with accelerator pedal position (APP) and engine speed. The engine control module (ECM) uses this information to assist in diagnosis of the barometric pressure (BARO) sensor and to provide engine overboost protection. The boost pressure sensor has a 5-volt reference circuit, a low reference circuit, and a signal circuit. The engine control module (ECM) supplies 5 volts to the boost pressure sensor on the 5-volt reference 2 circuit, and provides a ground on a low reference circuit. The boost pressure sensor provides a signal to the ECM on a signal circuit relative to the pressure changes. The ECM monitors the boost pressure sensor signal for voltage outside of the normal range. The ECM calculates a predicted value for the boost pressure sensor. The ECM then compares the predicted value to the actual signal.

Would a faulty DIM on a volvo affect turbo function...p0234?

Overboost could be caused by anything from a faulty TCV, split hose or dirty MAP sensor. A replacement DIM won't change the running of the engine.

This is what my code scanner says:
P0234 Engine Overboost Condition
If you have a non-turbo model, then it's probably something else. It may be a bad turbo overboost switch. My S80 is non-turbo but I had an overboost switch go out on my Mercedes and it shut down the turbo but I had the same error message. Good luck!
