Fuel Filter Removal & Installation NOTE: A combination fuel filter and fuel pressure regulator is used on all gas powered engines. It is located on the top of the fuel pump module. It contains a diaphragm, calibrated springs and a fuel return valve. The internal fuel filter is also part of the assembly.
To Remove:

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions at the beginning of this section.
  2. Release fuel pressure
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:
    • Fuel Tank refer
    • Fuel tank and remove the purge line and vent line.
    • Fuel line from pressure regulator. Fuel Pressure Regulator Locking Tab WHERE IS FUEL FILTER? - dod_intrpd_fuel_reg_lckng_tabs.gif

    • Pressure regulator by pushing the locking tab in from locking slot and turning pressure regulator to unlock it.
    • Pull regulator straight up.
To Install:
  1. Push regulator down and into place.
  2. Turn fuel pressure regulator to lock it in place. Make sure take the locking tab is in the locking slot.
  3. Install or connect the following:
    • Fuel line to regulator
    • Fuel pump electrical connector into hole in the body.
    • The purge and vent lines.
    • Tank into position and install tank straps.
    • The fuel filler tube and tighten the clamp.
    • The stabilizer bar and install bolts.
  4. Lower vehicle.
  5. Install or connect the following:
    • The fuel pump electrical connector that is in the rear seat.
    • The rear seat.
    • The battery cable.
  6. Fill fuel tank. Use the DRB scan tool to pressurize the fuel system. Check for leaks.

Fuel filter location 2000 chrystler 300m

Your problem may be one of the following:
First check or just replace the fuel filter. Usually located under the car in front of the rear axle, drivers side.
Next, the fuel pump may be worn out. Usually they just stop working (running).
Next, check the fuel pressure regulator. Usually located on the front fuel rail, drivers side.
Is the vacuum line attached? Not leaking or rotted?
Also, do you smell a strong fuel odor when it won't start? May be one or more stuck-open injectors, or the coil pack is bad.
Checking these in the order listed will more than likely fix your problem.
The clicking noise indicates the battery can no longer run the starter, which also means the fuel pump won't run either.

It could be a fuel issue. How old is the fuel filter? Can you hear the pump run for a few seconds when you turn the key on? Try turning the key to ON without trying to start engine three times waiting for the pump to stop running each time. Then try to start the engine. If it starts, Its a form of Vapor lock caused by the extreme heat we have had lately, and a weak fuel pump.

If none of this works, try a new fuel filter first. From there have someone check the fuel pressure regulator and then the pump. If you are in need of a new pump, take my word for it and spend the money to get one from a Dealer, and not from your favorite parts store. Most parts store parts are made in China and they are JUNK.

Car turns over like a carb engine until it fuels


you either have a bad fuel pump, or a bad fuel pump pressure regulator. also check the fuel filter will cause these issues.

Sometimes my car won't start when i turn it off then when I am driving it turns off. Its a 1999 300M


Maybe it is problem with fuel, or fuel filter or pump…. Try with Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC)
  1. Cycle the ignition key On – Off – On – Off – On within 5 seconds.
  2. The Odometer will show the P-Code for the DTC code number. (send me a code if you don’t have chart with DCT’s)
  3. If no DTC’s present, the cluster will display one of two texts: “P1684” and “done” or only “done” .
    1. “P1684” is only a status and indicates that the PCM memory has been cleared within the last 50 ignition cycles and does not indicate a problem
    2. “done” indicate that no DTCs are present and the procedure is complete.

get a starting and charging system diagnostic. I am the owner of a 99 300M and I had a similar problem. It took about 3 months before my car would not start at all. But sometimes, I would get this clicking when turning the key in the ignition. It turned out to be a short in the starter. The starter and the alternator had to be replaced.

Location of the oilpan and filter of my 1999 Chrysler 300M


there is a large plastic cover/shield under the car, remove it and the filter and oil pan are right there, the filter is in the front.
