Question about 1999 Saturn SL
Posted by Anonymous on
2001 Saturn SL1. Transmission (automatic) shifts hard when putting it in gear and every gear there after. The only codes I get is PO442 and PO410. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Common problem for these cars. "The Saturn Slam". Mine did the same thing. I changed the transmission valve body. This regulates the fluid pressure in the trans. The car runs and shifts like new. Easy fix. Re manufactured ones with the sonnax update run around $165 on ebay and have easy to follow installation instructions included. After it is installed the computer will need a little time to re learn the shift patterns 50 miles or so.. If you drive the car too long before repairing you can do damage to your trans. Hope that helps.

Sounds like you got a transmission problem. I'd start with checking and changing transmission fluid. When changing be sure to see what the level was first and if it was low. If it's still clunking I'd then take it to a good service shop.
