Hi

The electrical switch for the parking brake indicator is on the parking brake pedal, check to see if it is bent or broken. The other switch that can illuminate that light is the pressure differential switch located on the combination valve that is bolted to the front cross member. It is a one wire grounding switch that should light the light if there is a pressure difference (blown brake line, leaking wheel cylinder, etc). The wire can rub thru or be chewed on by varmints and ground itself to the frame. As the combo valve gets older it can stick in the bore also, so sometimes just a hard stomp on the brake pedal is all that is needed to reenter the valve.

Seems as though the switching mechanism on the parking brake may need servicing to me...
Try reaching under the dash and manipulating th switch by hand to see if you can work it loose....
Otherwise... plenty of salvage yards have these cars.... and they do NOT inventory this p[art , so you should beable to get it cheap/....

Usually this indicates that either the cable is bad, or the rear brakes are not adjusted up so this makes the pedal sit too low on the parking brake (or the hand lever sits too high).

My parking brake light stays on and my brakes seem to be sticking as well.1995 Chev.pick-up,I pulled the rear wheels off and found I could still rotate the drum without any sticking or rubbing. Could this...

it sounds like the front brake slides/or pins are sticking i would service front calipers and apply lube where needed. For the brake light you would need to check the brake fluid level sensor turn it counter clockwise 1/4 turn and clean with brake clean if that doesn't work unplug the sensor and if light goes off replace sensor for brake fluid level. Also make sure parking brake is totally released.

Head lights burn some time only after you press and release the park brake repeatatly whats worng

Well the headlights do not come on if the parking brake is still on. So maybe in your described case you are having a problem with the switch at the park brake. The switch is probably sticking in the "park brake applied" position. If you look at the switches at the parking brake and can spray some penetrant on them this may free them up.

My 1995 honda preludes emergency brake doenst work, when you pull it up it comes up easy and the break light does come on, also my ABS light is on and wont turn off

The parking brake problem could be rear brakes out of adjustment, a broken parking brake cable, or a parking brake cable in need of adjustment.

The ABS light mosy likely has nothing to do with your parking brake problem and will have to be diagnosed by first gathering the ABS fault codes from the ABS computer.

My car will not come out of park

make sure the breake lights work 1st, if not check the brake light switch, the park position is locked until the system senses the brake is depressed, it does this through the brake light switch, if the brake lights work the park solenoid or the cable it operates is sticking or defective.

You will need to find out which speed sensor has gone bad. Only way to know it to hook it up to a scan tool. The burning smell is possibly a caliper sticking as these vehicles are bad about them sticking after brake pad replacement.

Have a 1998 4runner. automatic. the gear lever has been getting stuck and will not come out of park, rev, sometimes stuck in park. problem is that i have replaced the bulb for the shifter light, but now...

Check the brake lights when the the problem occurs, the system has an electric interlock that dis-engages a lock-out pin and allows you to come out of park only when the brake light circuit is active and it gets a 12 volt signal from the brake light switch, other issues are the solenoid that pulls the pin back and the cable and linkage sticking, pull the cover off the linkage and make sure everything works freely.
