Changed plugs and wires rotor and cap on a 1984 chevy camero v6 now it runs worst then before do i need to adjust timing?

Check the plug wires again. If you have them in the right place then some one has done work on this before and didn't set the distributor in the right spot. Get #1 piston on top at the compression stroke. Pull the cap and see where the rotor is pointing. It should be pointing at the # 1 Cylinder, which is on the right standing in front of the car looking at the engine. If the rotor is not pointing to it, you should pull the distributor and reset it. You will have to use a long flat screw driver to move the oil pump drive gear to set the distributor in the right place. Let me know
Randy
Ps the reason it was probably running bad to begin with, is that the distributor was not set right.

Not sure how to replce spark plug wires from the distributor need help please send info

change one spark wire at a time on the distributor.buy new set of spark plugs wires remove them from box.match old wires with new wires to use the correct length to each cylinder.now if you need to change distributor cap.mark location distributor cap.number tag plug wires on the distributor cap so you can remove plug wires on distributor cap so you can replace cap and rotor and put wires back on the distributor cap in correct place.remember change one plug wire at a time so you wont get confuse.

2004 KIA OPTIMA WON'T START AFTER SPARK PLUGS WERE CHANGES

HI. There are several areas of concern here. I will list them below. Check all areas stated in the list for faults.

Possible cuases:

1. Incorrect firing order set. On the 2.0, 2.4 and 2.7 engines. These engines are equipped with a distributor-less ignition system. This system incorporates a coil pack assembly, along with wire sets. In order for the assembly to fire correctly, the order of the wires must be set to the proper sequence. if not, the engine will not turn over, or start correctly. Make sure your firing order is correct, and make sure you have not placed a particular wire set into the wrong cylinder. I will post a picture of the correct firing order for your engine, below this list, shortly.

2. Incorrect spark plug gapping procedure. If the new spark plugs were gapped incorrectly, this will not allow for proper spark, thus, preventing optimal combustion, due to lack of fire. Check the spark plug gap using a wire gap gauge, and adjust if necessary. The gap should be 0.039-0.043 in. (1.0-1.1mm)

3. Failed coil pack assembly. This will be the worst case scenario. The coil pack supplies the necessary current that fuels each plug. The current is transferred, via wire sets. This will be the culprit if all the above areas are proven to be operational, and in good shape.

4. Failed wire sets. Replace the wire sets if faults are found at the connector at the ignition coil pack, or at the plug boot.

NOTE*
In order to provide the correct firing order for your engine, i will need the engine size and liter information, if possible. Please post this information, asap. Thanks..

On a rebuilt motor how do you set the timming on a 350 chevy. Thanks.

firing order is 1 8 4 3 6 5 7 2 remove number one spark plug its always the right drivers side head..closest to the radiator turn engine crankshaft till the top of number one piston is all the way to the top or if you have help put your thumb over the plug hole sand have someone bump the engine over till the pressure in the cylinder pops your thumb free,,,check front of crank  harmonic balancer for timing mark if you need to move crank by hand till the mark lines up to the 0...or top dead center....then make sure distributer cap is pointing to number one plug wire if not remove dist and turn to the right position and install...if it dosnt go in all the way dont worry hold light down pressure on it  and just bump the engine over and it will drop right in place then recheck your settings and install spark plug start engine and adjust with timing light check your specs

Audi a3 1600 1999 car cuts out when cold after taking foot off the throttle but once warm normally ok but this doent happen all the time. Erratic rev counter when problem about to occur

You must check up all spark plugs, eventually change spark plug set (4 pieces), and fuel filter placed on bottom right side near reservoir. Also you must clean inside throttle valve control unit, see picture below:

Caprice 5.0 won't start but turns almost over

you need three things, fuel, air, and spark. the fuel and air should be ok. Let's check the timing. Oh. are you sutre the firing order is right with the wires? Ok, they are, right? Now set the timing marks on front of engine to match up at 4 degrees after you bring #1 piston to top dead center.on compression stroke.you can tell when its on compression stroke by removing spark plug and bumping the starter untill the piece of tissue you put in the plug hole blows out.then once the timing marks are lined up,check what wire the rotor is pointing at. If its close to #1, turn distributor slowly either way untill you hear a spark jump or pop. Lay #1 plug wireon the engine with the spark plug stuck in it. When the spark pops, the plug will fire at the timing mark setting. put plug back in, minus the tissue, put the wire back on and sng doe your distributor. the firing order is casted on the intakke manifold. Like 18436572. Going around top of dis cap start at the wire you know is #1.and in the direction the distributor turns make sure wires are in that order on your manifold.don't forget to secure the distributor cap..I this distributor has points the dwell/gap will have to be set while running with an allen wrench and dwell meter.at32 degrees. No points,no ptoblem. no setting. button it all up and look around for loose anythings, especially tools on top of radiator and light it it up. Final timing should be set with a timimg light. Any problems , I'll be on the puter bot noon o clock my time. Good Luck.
