It sounds like you don't have enough belt tension and it's causing your belt to slip.

Under the hood is a fuse panel. On the left side of the panel there is a door that lifts up. Under that is a 175 amp fuse. You can check it with an ohm meter or just replace it.

2001fors escort zx2. battery light flickers, window opens slower, headlights dim. do i need a new alternator

Yes, most likely. I noticed this with my F150, but it was only doing it when the engine was higher than idle. Take off (after removing battery connector) and have it tested. Most stores do it for free. If your nearest store charges, so somewhere else because they are going to be too expensive.

2000 ford escort zx2 wont start

Car not starting or turning over indicates towards multiple possibilities. It can be issue with battery or weak battery. But if battery checks out ok, then it can be starter issue or faulty alternator or problem with low fuel pressure or no spark at spark plugs due to dirty spark plugs or faulty ignition coil or injectors getting cracked or dirty and needs to be cleaned.

To confirm the problem, the basic troubleshooting is required.

If it has a manual transmission, check the clutch start switch on the clutch pedal support. If it has an automatic transmission it could be the transmission range sensor mounted on top of the transmission right side of the engine. In either case it could be the ignition switch (this is the switch you put the key in to start the car).

Likely cause :: The alternator is malfunctioning -- could be loose / dirty connections; or it could be the voltage regulator in the alternator malfunctioing; or it could be the alternator itself failing.

If the battery terminals are not clean and tight it can cause this issue you are having. Corrossion can build up inside the cables and cause this issue as well.

What is wrong with the car when the battery is charged it will start and run as long as it is on but it doesnt turn back on when you turn it off

My guess would be that the alternator is bad. Your battery has enough power to get car started, but the alternator is not recharging the battery, and so the battery is draining while your using the car. When you turn it off, it doesn't have enough juice to restart it.

Car is stalling while driving. Just installed new alternator, battery and serpentine belt.

I had that same problem on my 2001 zx2. It turned out to be the cam position sensor.
