Question about 1999 GMC Yukon Denali

1 Answer

I have a 1999 Yukon Denali it was getting stuck in park. Took it to a garage they told me it was the brake switch. They replaced it and by the time I got my truck home, it got stuck in park again. What could be the problem and will this be an exspensive problem?

Hi,I would check the wires at the plug on the brake switch.thay are very fine wires and tend to break at or near the switch connector. You can turn your ignition on but do not start the engine, push on your brake pedel wiggle the wires and listen for a click. It will click when the wires make contact. You will have to have the wire or connector repaired.Let me know what you find and if I can help any more just let me know.Thank You for using fixya.....iluv2fish........Ray.....

    Hello Ray,
Just wanted to get back to you about the problem I was having with my truck. It turns out the garage put in a used brake switch!! I had it fixed for FREE and made sure they installed a new one from a GMC dealership.

1999 Yukon Denali stop shifting out of park.

Check the brake lights when this happens, if they are not on then you have found the problem it is the brake light circuit. Go under the dash if the brick lights don't work and check the brake light switch above the brake pedal, it should have 12 volts in and out with the brake pedal pushed down. See typical brake light switch location below. #4 in diagram is brk lite switch.

Stuck in park

The most common problem for this is a bad brake switch. Get under the dash and follow your brake pedal up untill you see a switch that is operated when you press and depress your brake pedal. Replace this switch and you should be good to go.

My 1999 gmc yukon denali won't shift out of park

Check the brake switch. The brake switch releases the locking pin for the shifter when you apply the brake. Common problem with GM. Turn the key on, apply the brake on and off and listen to see if you hear a click in the steering collumn. Do this a few times to make sure you can hear it. If you can't then the switch is bad.

You are going to have to pry it over the axle on one side of the park brake shoe assembly with either a pry bar or screwdriver. then just pop the new one back over the axle in the same way. Hope this helps

03 Yukon denali park brake warning wont turn off

hi for info the brakes warning light on dash is also an indication that brake fluid level is low? or there may be a leak resulting in fluid level drop ? also considering age of car you may need to inspect brake pads wear ? if your car has low brake pads wear indicators attached to pads ? or the hand brake switch req's checking to ensure it is being pushed to off position when h/brak is down ? so fluid level low is the obviouse 1st check as fluid will displace from reservoir as pads wear low hence the level indicator on fill cap trips on may i suggest if it is low level b4 you top up? check your b/pads if you have not done so recently? or replaced since new ? hope this helps you locate problem best wishes from the uk
