Question about 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 Truck

1 Answer

I have a 1998 Dodge Ram 24 valve 5.9 Diesel truck. There is a loud pounding when the engine is running and revs up when accelerating. 1 fuel injector is bad, checked all but 2. I wrote this earlier but didn't add that it is a diesel motor

I found a place to rent a computer code checker (?) but was told it was impossible for it to give out information about injectors blown motors etc etc. So I am going to assume that will be a negative.

Hi!!

Check the computer codes, if vehicle is not driveable, borrow a scanner from AutoZone. The stored codes will pinpoint the problem and we can concentrate on the repair.

Keep me posted!!

If a fuel injector is defective, it will reflect in the overall performance of the engine, the PCM will store all related information about the failure. Scanners will read this codes even if it is about fuel injectors.

Let me know what codes came up.

Jeep diesel problems

Has the fuel filter been changed? It sounds like a fuel starvation problem. Not familiar with the Mercedes diesel I had a Dodge Cummins 24 valve diesel and had the same trouble when the fuel filter had gotten to dirty. Another issue could be the fuel pump itself is starting to go, not a usual problem but would cause the engine to cutout if it is not providing enough fuel. Which in turn would make it hard to to start after since there is not enough fuel in the system. Also check if there is a filter in the fuel tank could be plugged. Check the fuel also, see if it has started growing algae in the tank if this happens it will plug filters quickly. Good luck

1998 dodge ram without 02 sensor howwill it run

If you run the engine without an o2 sensor your emissions and fuel management systems will not work correctly.First thing to do if the engine revs high is to take the idle air control valve off and clean the carbon out of it and the throttle body using a non-chlronated brake cleaner. Then reset the computer by disconnecting the ground on the battery for 30 seconds or pull the ECM fuse or with a code reader. If the problem exists do the same with the mass air flow sensor.Let me know the results.

I have a 1998.5 dodge 5.9 cummings diesel 24 valve factory stock, the fuel lift pump is not on engine or fuel lines, did dodge mount it in fuel tank?

It was located on the drivers side of engine close to fuel filter housing, but dodge has been selling and installing kits that change it to the in tank style for quite some time, so if not on block it must have been converted at some time.

IT SOUNDS LIKE THE LIFT PUMP OR POSSABLE FUEL RESTRICTION CHANGE THE FUEL FILTER ALSO CHANGE THE AIR FILTER IF THAT DOSENT FIX IT YOU WILL NEED TO CHECK THE FUEL PRESSURE OUT OF THE LIFT PUMP BEFORE YOU WASTE THE INJECTION PUMP
