I have used two very small screw drivers to get a broken off key out of the drivers side door once. It may work as well in the ignition.

When the key is in the ingition and in the on

Hi there , no this is not normal. You may have a very worn ignition cylinder. I am a locksmith in Queen creek Az and I do a lot of ignition repairs. The ignitions in most Gm, Ford , Dodge, Chryslers ect were all made by the same manufacturer and all had the same problems. It does it because the waffers have worn down and the key catch in the front of the lock has been worn and or damaged. Thank you , Quinn Texada.

How do we remove then replace the tumbler unit?

basically, hacksaw off the old casing, and replace with a new one, complete with key etc. it will come with "shear bolts" that will shear off the heads when tightened to the correct torque.

Warning chimes sound when driver door is opened

sounds like the ignition sw....check closely the key in the tumbler (sw), is there excessive play when you turn it to the off position???try turning it off with a little force to ensure its OFF, does this stop your problem??? if so it either your switch or excessive wear in the key/tumbler /linkage ....let me know if this helps....GL

Key stuck in ignition. Won't turn to the off position

Sounds like a very warn out lock and tumblers. Try angling the key as you turn the lock.

Ingtion switch bad 04 pontiac sunfire

Key Lock or electrical switch? I'll guess the electrical need to drop steering post to get to it. You can find instructions in most any manual...If no manual, beware of yellow wire it triggers air bag!!! Disconnect battery before doing work and know if your radio needs a code to get it working again before you start! It's not a terribly hard job unless you don't like working in tight places and have no patience.

2001 Mazda Millenia ignition switch / steering wheel locked

The tumblers have wore down and won't let the key turn. At this point you need to have the tumbler set replaced.
