How do I fix a thermostat that sticks and temp goes to 250 degrees on a 1999 Grand Am. I put a new thermostat in

New thermostats do not stick. With the radiator full and the cap off check for air bubbles at idle. blown head gaskets blow bubbles

Blower control

Sounds like a thermostat and/ or the system is low on coolant.
Its probably not going to reach 200 degrees when the outside air temp is below freezing, but you should get plenty of heat if the system is working correctly.

Once the car gets to op.temp it starts to run rough

it sounds like you might want to scan your vehicle for sensors evaluation to determine what causing your rough idle if you have engine light on

1997 pontiac grand am coolant fan not coming on when it needs to. Put new relay on as well. fan does work. what to do next?sometimes it will be on and also stay on but when car cuts off and go to cut back...

coolant fan should kick on when engine coolant reaches 190 to 200 degrees.the coolant temperature sensor resistance will drop.closing contacts allow the pcm to signal or turn on coolant fan.if coolant temoerature sensor is open or bad the coolant fan will not turn on.need to replace it.

99 GrandAm GT v6 3.4L overheating

Can't give you a definite "fix" only because I'd need to do testing. But, two items you need to have checked are: 1. have a hydrocarbon test done fro the cooling system to verify that you do or don't have a head gasket problem. 2. have someone check the radiator with a "heat gun" to see if there are any cold spots. Home flush kits and sometimes even shop flush equipment will force cleaner around, not through heavily plugged areas and not clear the obstruction. Heat gun is best way of finding cold areas that are not flowing.
also...you mentioned fan relays...does the fan come on?

Low coolant lite.

I also own a 99 grand am 3.4L
The coolant fans will not come on until the engine temp gets to about 220 degrees.

if they do not come on the relays are located under the hood in the covered panel near the LF strut tower.

also the fans should run constantly when the A/C is turned on.

good luck
