It could be the starter or the starter solenoid or even the starter relay. For steps in test each of these I recommend you get the Haynes repair manual on your vehicle.

Hi if you have bonnet open then turn the key if you hear a faint clicking noise then this chances are this means the solenoid is sticking on the starter motor, now the only real way of fixing this is to replace the starter.

how ever to get the car started you could try doing the following, locate the starter and give it a few hard hits with a hammer doing this will usually free the solenoid and get the starter working, how ever dont rely on this every time as it could leave you stuck.

now if you have a manual gear box car you could put it in 2nd gear and get someone to push you or roll down hill with the ignition on the when your moving let the clutch up this will then turn the engine over and fire it up ( make sure you have the ignition switched on) this will also get it started but will only work on manual gear box.

now the other problems you could have are the immobilizer if this is faulty then this could be stuck on and this would stop your car from starting, so this would need checking, now if you have a fob that opens the doors hold this as close to the ignition barrel when you turn the key to start the car if the battery is low in the fob then this should get it started if not the battery will need replacing( only if you have a central locking remote fob on your keys)

Hesitates when turning over

Hi Terry:
I'd be thinking that there may be a poor battery terminal connection.
If the battery is fully charged, and the terminals and wires and starter are all good, then you start thinking that timing may be too advanced.
What was done to this motor recently?

I have a 95 honda civic ex,wont start.ran fine yesterday,wont start this morning.battery is fully charged,new cap and rotor.would do u think might b my problem

if it wont turn over 1st check the ground s on the car and the battery 1st. your battery can be fully charged and the car will not start even over night this can happen. then look at the starter. Note: if you have over 109K on the car and the timing belt has never been replaced you will need to have this checked as well.

Bmw 325i wagon slow starting then totally no turning over at all.All lights work dash is all lit up .Battery is fully charged car has faint click.but still wont turn over.I think it might be the starter...

I would try replacing the battery first. Even a fully charged battery can have bad cells which will cause the battery to not have enough "power" to turn over the starter/engine.

In snd out of it

Check your battery cables and terminals. If they are ok, check your altenator because it might not be charging the battery properly.

86 cutlass wont start with a fully charged battery it turns over really slow and drains the battery

Have your starter checked. Once it goes bad it drains your battery very quickly when trying to start vehicle.
