You are doing nothing wrong other than not getting the advice needed to fix the problem . Every time a battery connection is broken for what ever reason the current surge affects the CPU program. Sometimes this surge manages to fix some thing but mostly it corrupts the CPU program. TO fix the fault and light problem after having everything recorded attended to you should use a code reader /scanner connected to the data plug to reset the CPU program

yes they are all right, i suspect that this vehicle uses encrypted software for the gearbox computer and this is the reason for the different codes ,i never use a code reader as on europeon cars they just show cannot connect to vehicle ,i use a voltmeter and a dwell meter plus a frequency meter and a scope to diagnose problems .So i suspect

P0741....Torque Converter Clutch Circuit Performance or Stuck Off

P0507....Idle Control System RPM Higher Than Expected

that this dealer doesnt have the correct diagnostic software because their code is a generic code as well as the first one ,A GM dealer code would have been P1507 and this code doesnt exist in the GM list of codes ,i think they are both right and need attention but the gearbox code is a fault with the front clutch operating mechanism ,i would advise ripping teh autobox out and fitting a manual gearbox ,lot less hassle

2002 Buick Century, when the tank is 1/4 full,

P0446 Evaporative Emission Control System Vent Control Circuit Malfunction

The evaporative emission control system checks to make sure there are no leaks in the lines that run from the gas tank to the charcoal canister and up to the engine. It also checks to make sure the gas cap is sealing correctly.
It may just be that the cap was not on tight and the code was tripped.

A dusty environment can also clog the vent line and cause this code.
Have the code cleared and see if it comes back. Some auto parts stores like Auto Zone can read and clear the codes for you.
Hope this helps.

Engine light came on vehicle working fine

A check engine light is a signal from the computer that one of the systems it is monitoring is not functioning correctly. This could be as simple as a loose gas cap (or a cap that needs replaced) or the cannister vent solenoid not working or a leak in the vacuum lines to the vent solenoid(all part of the emissions) to a cam or crank sensor failing. The only way to know why the computer is reporting a problem is to read the codes stored in the onboard computer. The codes will identify the system that is not functioning correctly.
The car may run fine but there is some system not doing its job or a sensor not sending the correct info.

Service engine soon light came on.

Computer thinks the pressure is wrong in the EVAP cannister. Cannister could be plugged, vent hose could kinked, sensor messed up, or the vent solenoid is busted.

1. Loose/faulty gas cap.
2. Evap Canister problem - bad solenoid, leakage, etc.
3. Bad fuel tank pressure sensor.

I have a 2006 Chevy Silverado 1500 2WD and the engine light came on. I went to Auto Zone who did a quick check and found it to be a failed EVAP vent solenoid. I took it to the Chevy dealership who stated...

Ok everyone, listen up....If you have a 04 and newer silverado, with a failed evap vent solenoid, you have to read this info. Do not pay $100+ for this part(actually $150.00 at the dealer). The following part numbers associated with this part have been gm#19207763,19152349, and AC DELCO #'s 214-2082 costing over $100.00 for the modified part. This is for the modified part, with the relocation of the filterbox, and the added hose that seperates the two. No one at Gm will tell you this, but this same part, that was origionally on your silverado, is also used in the 2006 Suburban. It will be an identical replacement for what is ON YOUR TRUCK, and the cost is $24.04 AT THE DEALER. I know this because I own a 2006 silverado, and a 2006 suburban. Looked at the suburban when the part went bad on the silverado(from overfilling the tank)and bingo, same part. Ask a parts person at GM, and they will tell you otherwise, but they are lying to you. Bought the suburban part today part # 25932571 (GM #) and everything is identical, right down to the numbers stamped on the part itself. Took the part off my silverado, put the replacement on (which gm told me is not the right part), cleared the codes, and bingo no more light after 3 consecutive starts...... Why, is it that GM feels we need to pay the price for something they did wrong???? And moreso, lie to us, telling us the $150.00 part is our only choice to fix the problem. My truck went 40K miles with the origional part, and probably only went bad because of my own stupidity in overfilling the tank, whay would I not just want to spend $24.00 to put on the same part, that will probably go the rest of the life of the truck with no tank overfills???? I say CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT FOR EVERYONE THAT HAS BEEN SCAMMED INTO PAYING THE RIDICULOUS PRICE that GM is trying to **** out of us.....Please pass this on to the world, and every forum you can...Get the word out....Let the parts people at GM know we are on to their BS, and they can't take advantage of us like they have.....
